I'm Going to Selma, Just Hope There's No Hurricanes

Thu Mar 01, 2007 at 07:19:49 PM PDT

Weird weather in Dixie. A remarkably hurricane-shaped low over the Chicago/Milwaukee area is pounding the Deep South with storms and tornadoes. But it will all be outta here by Sunday. High pressure and sunny skies will be soaked in by the attendees of this exciting event...

Hillary and Obama will duke it out this coming Sunday in Selma, Alabama. I'll be there. Any fellow Kossacks who will also attend please wear orange so we can attempt to hook up.

Of course there won't really be hurricanes in Alabama in March, but the weather is certainly bound to be a subject of discussion at the event.

I wonder how much Hillary and Obama will talk about the weather on Sunday? Since I'm a Gore fan, I'll be watching them to see how much emphasis they place on the changing climate. We here on the Gulf Coast have been through some serious storms of late, and due to a la nina this summer, we will be more at risk this hurricane season.

Of course, I'll be watching them for other things, too. Stance on the illegal occupation of Iraq. The state of the investigations in Congress. Overall disgustedness with the current Administration.

I really hope they don't simply utter platitudes and and one-liners. The people in Selma will be expecting some real fire from these two. They need to show that they are engaged and aware of the Constitutional crisis we are slogging through. They need to show some backbone and some willingness to confront the Regressives head on. That's what many in the crowd will be looking for.
------------------
The situation we face today calls out desperately for strong, principled leaders. Leaders who are willing and able to confront the widespread corruption, chaos, and criminality that has become so common during the Bush regime.

In order for our Constitutional Democracy to survive, we have to hold our leaders to account, and this means the ones on our side, too. We have regressed so far--beyond the question of illegality into questions of what constitutes reality. No longer is there any doubt that our top leaders are criminals of the most vile kind. I want these two candidates to talk about this.

Let's hear them talk about the Constitution. Let's hear them talk about wiretapping and the virtually destroyed military and intelligence services. I want to hear them blame dubya and his cabal with serious crimes. I want to know where they stand on the Plame outing.

They should talk about torture and the Geneva Conventions. They should talk about what it means to lead with morality and not money. They should mention the election and what it means for Progressivism. They should be kind and smart and tough at the same time.

They should talk about the weather.

    Points with much depth!

I bet Obama will concentrate on connecting with his target audience and enunciate issues of particular interests to them. He will be on a mission to establish his credibility and authentic connection with them and continue on the upward surge in polls within the A.A community.
If any issues/theme will be talked about its that the civil rights era and struggles opened doors for folks like him, and LET NO ONE DARE TELL HIM HE CANT WIN!!!. Key word opportunity for all americans

    • Iraq may be mentioned
    • Economic empowerment may be mentioned
    •  Of course I don't "expect" to hear (0+ / 0-)

these things. I just say they should be what they talk about. You can cover a whole lot of ground in a 10 or 20 minute speech. These are the issues that are important.
