The administration was ordered to release the rest of the pictures of abuse at Abu Ghraib weeks ago. We still don't have them but we have moved one step closer.
This week Judge Hellerstein denied the CIA's motion for partial reconsideration of the order requiring production. The order extends the deadline for production to November 15 but we won't see the pictures then either.
More on the flip.
You have to look at the government's defense like the defense in a death penalty case. Even if there is no doubt as to guilt the idea is to delay the inevetable as long as possible. So, you do everything on the last possible day and it's all about buying time. We can be sure that the government will appeal by November 15 and get an order delaying production until the appeal is resolved. The only uncertainty is whether the government has more tricks up their sleeves even before an appeal is filed.
Thanks to all for the links to the court file in
this diary a few days ago. It makes it easy to find the latest rulings on the case.
