I Got the News Today (3/15/2007 Edition). Yesterday, the Department of Defense announced the name of one soldier killed in Operation Iraqi Freedom.  According to the Iraq Coalition Casualty Count the number of names released by the DoD is now 3194 and there are seven more names of the deceased awaiting notification of the next of kin before being publicly released.

DoD Identifies Army Casualty

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Sgt. 1st Class Douglas C. Stone, 49, of Taylorsville, Utah, died Mar. 11 in Iraq of wounds suffered from a non-combat related incident. His death is under investigation.

Stone was assigned to the 96th Regional Readiness Command, Salt Lake City.

DoD News Release

Stone's family in Utah has requested that media not contact them, at least initially, McKinney said. He added that the family has also asked media to refrain from discussing possible causes of death until the investigation is complete.
