I was just reading
this AP story about Nader's uphill battle to get on the ballot in all the states. What struck me is his decision to target Texas first.
The first target is Texas, where Nader needs 65,000 signatures in a 60-day period from voters who are not participating in the Democratic or Republican primaries.
Why Texas? Is this a symbolic gesture to show that he means to take his fight to Bush, and not to the Dem nominee? I'd have bet he'd try first in a liberal-friendly place, like Northern California. Pick up some momentum, and roll on to other coastal regions.
This morning, Nader said this:
I'd go after Bush even more vigorously as we are in the next few months in ways that the Democrats can't possibly do because they're too cautious and too unimaginative, but they can pick up the vulnerabilities and the failures of the Bush administration that we point out.
I'm hoping Nader is trying to redeem his legacy by showing that third-party candidates are not always a negative.
Keeping my fingers crossed that this is the case....
