E-mailGate

This will be a short diary, but I just think that this scandal needs a name.

Personally, I like E-mailGate.

It's clear, and it's catchy.

Once a scandal has a catchy name then people can't help but talk about it.  The news pundits will have to mention it... E-mailGate.

Then all the viewers out there will perk up their ears... "what the heck is that?"  Which is exactly what we want - more people paying attention to this scandal.

I also think we should start this meme:  "The missing e-mails lead to corruption in the White House."

That way, when people talk about this scandal, they have to talk about corruption in the white house.  (i.e.  Wolf Blitzer:  "Some on the left are saying these supposedly missing e-mails would provide a trail to corruption in the White House")

What do you think?  Other suggestions?

    That's not going to happen, because Wolf Blitzer is never going to say those words.  We need something that can catch on in the MSM that will identify this scandal as a big deal.

      That's the beauty of "E-mailGate."  It rolls off the tongue, and anyone listening will surely understand what you mean.

      It doesn't get the message across.  The message being that the white house deleted millions of e-mails.

      I did put .gov in a similar comment last night, but in thinking of just branding it for the general public who may not be aware of the domain.  Just sounded trendier for a nickname I thought.

      But, it's short and to the point.  There is corruption at the White House.  And the Internets are heavily involved.

    is that it tells people it's a scandal.

    "E-mailGate."  You immediately know it's a scandal involving e-mails - presumably the ones deleted by the white house.

    I like your suggestion, but I don't see how it can catch on:

    Wolf Blizter:  "And now we turn to a new update on [e-mail]"

    The meaning isn't clear.

      In my opinion.  There have been so many "gates" that people roll their eyes.

      Let's keep it simple, but let's make clear that this is about Republicans, the White House, and serious corruption.

      Any non-gate suggestions?

        the reason I say that it needs to say RNC, corruption, white house, or some such langauge is for straight branding.  It will create a (true) association between Republicans and corruption every time it's mentioned.

        Karl Rove has been very good about branding various Dems and Dem causes.....time to flip the script.

        That is very clear and intriguing to the average viewer.  But it's a little clunkier than "E-mailGate."
