I disagree with many of the comments posted here. If the CinC offers Lieberman a Cabinet spot, then Lieberman should accept the offer. We are, for better or for worse, at war. In May 1940, FDR named two Republicans to his cabinet. Henry Stimson, former War Secretary under Taft and Secretary of State under Hoover, went back to the War Department. Frank Knox, who ran for VP with Landon in 1936 against FDR, went to Navy. In our own times, we have seen Republican Sen. Cohen serve as Clinton's Defense Secretary.
All of us should remember the words of President Hayes. "He who serves his country best serves his party best." We should also ponder the words of Jefferson's law student, William C. Rives, who said on the floor of the Senate that he had a country to serve that means more to him than his party. Lieberman should put this democracy over the Democratic Party. In a time of war, if he is offered a Cabinet post, he should accept it, no matter what he (and we) think of the current adminstration. He would certainly be an improvement over most of the current Bush team.
