Here is what we in Multnomah County Oregon (i.e. Portland) have been doing to help move the football forward on possibly challenging the election.
This is in conjunction with what is going on in Ohio.
CleanVote Works to Protect Voting Rights
The Multnomah County Democrats (MCDCC) recently welcomed into its organization the many volunteers who had worked on the Democratic election campaign. CleanVote is one of the work groups formed to give volunteers the means to bring their high energy, political awareness, and sense of purpose into the party. They have taken the initiative and joined national efforts with not only the Ohio recount but for election reform in general.
The CleanVote unit quickly drafted a letter for the Executive Committee, directed to the Oregon Congressional delegation, requesting that they join 14 other members of Congress in demanding that the General Accountability Office investigate thousands of irregularities that occurred in key battleground states for the presidential election.
The letter also encouraged Senators Ron Wyden and Gordon Smith "to step forward and concur" with challenges to state electors that may result from House investigations. Some 30,000 irregularities and acts of voter suppression were reported following the election.
The letter was then delivered to Representatives Blumenauer, Hooley, and Wu, as well as to Senator Wyden by delegations comprised of officers of the Multnomah Democrats, members of the CleanVote work group and other interested citizens.
It was also sent to more than 2500 other Democratic party sources nationwide to encourage them to undertake similar efforts.
A similar letter was approved by the Democratic State Central Committee and replicated for state party officials to circulate. It was then delivered to a meeting of the Association of State Democratic Chairs in Orlando, Florida. The text of this letter is displayed on the Web site of the Democratic Party of Oregon
The CleanVote group also linked up with ActionSpeaks and Code Pink, two local organizations that had mobilized around the growing concern about voter fraud, in order to lobby The Oregonian for coverage of voting irregularities. Members conducted an informational picket of the newspaper and spoke with columnist Margie Boulé and public editor Michael Arrieta-Walden.
Shortly thereafter Arrieta-Walden devoted a column to the subject, a number of features addressed the issue, general coverage of the issue increased, and several letters from a packet of 84 submitted to the newspaper were published.
The current "action item" for the group is to participate in the nationwide campaign to ensure that our Congressional members fully support the ongoing investigation into voting irregularities, and that they are prepared to challenge the presidential electors from any states where there are doubts as to the validity of the vote.
Petitions are being circulated so that citizens can let our Senators know that we need them to stand up for our right to vote and for our right to have every vote counted.
We encourage your participation and offer the following petition. Circulate the petition to your neighbors and friends. Send completed petitions to Senator Wyden's address.
NOTE: This petition is not a substitute for writing and/or letters, making phone calls, and other regular communications with your senator. Due to the urgency of this situation, mail signed copies of the petition (and any letters about voting rights) to Senator Wyden by no later than December 30.
We are changing the party.
