Somebody help me out here. I'm stuck behind a firewall called Newhouse newspapers, and I'm trying to make these people in Alabama aware that Karl Rove isn't their buddy. A friend told me that the local paper, the Mobile Register, had an article on Monday about how the state GOP was rallying around Rove and praising him for his strategy. Has anyone seen this? I'm trying to find the article in the paper and searching google, but neither the newspaper website nor my google searches have resulted in the article he was referring to.
What steams me about this, if it's true, is that I've been trying to get our papers to discuss the negative effect that Rove has had in Alabama, a fact that many elsewhere in the country seem to be aware of, but I'm convinced that we won't make much headway until our local citizenry gets the full picture, and that's not happening. Here's a link to some of the stuff they need to know about and don't ever hear of down here:
Karl Rove in a Corner
And here's an interesting little tidbit:
An online survey, from NBC13.com which is a Mobile, Alabama local television station, they asked if Bush should fire Rove for his discussion with a reporter involving a CIA employee.
Link to survey
Out of 2263 respondents, as of 7/26/05 and counting me, of course, the count for Absolutely, without Question was 32%. The answer that gave Rove a pass because "he didn't know the employee was an undercover agent and he didn't name her" was 34%. This means the Republican talking points are working for about half the online viewers, and there was a healthy 17% who said "Who cares?" which is fairly typical of a contingent that would be online, maybe looking at football scores or NASCAR results or something. The surprise for me was that the question was even asked. We're actually making progress, since for nearly six years I've been trying to tell people about Rove and they'd say "who's Karl Rove" and then proceed to tell me how much they knew about that good old boy,or that good Christian George Bush!
So, if you've seen anything recent on Rove and Alabama, let me know, please.
