Today marks a small milepost on the road back towards progress. The George W. Bush presidency, easily argued as the
worst in history, has only
1,000 more days to run its course. It seems like a long time, but there are important milestones along the way. Like in 197 days, when we will vote to take back the Legislative branch from the radical republicans driving our country into the ground. Or the longer 925 days until we pick his successor. John F. Kennedy changed our country with his 1,000 days in the Presidency. What to do with our 1,000 days, below the fold.
What can we do with these 1,000 days? We have an advantage over the Bush administration. Because there are tens of thousands of us. If 100,000 people are inspired to act through DKos, then that 1,000 days turns into a hundred million. A hundred million days to work for change. What will we do?
Some of us will, and rightly so, continue to hammer at the Bush administration, relentlessly, finding a new scandal, a new lie, a new half-truth on every one of those 1,000 days.
Others will volunteer on a grassroots campaign, a city council seat, perhaps, or maybe even a school board, getting liberal politicians back in power.
Some will work on bigger races, as precinct captains for governor's races, or volunteers for Senate campaigns.
And, of course, some people will do nothing. So here's my plea, for those of you feeling disturbed about the large figure of a thousand days. Do something. Volunteer. Research. Work for change. Don't just sit on your hands and bemoan the fate of America. If you haven't already begun, the fight starts today.
