HEADLIGHTS ON!  Bush-Cheney RESIGN.

Sun Apr 08, 2007 at 04:08:32 PM PDT

HEADLIGHTS ON!  Bush-Cheney RESIGN.

Please send this action idea to the top and keep it there with your recommendation.  Please help develop, cross-post and promote this idea, and others similar to it.  It is simple, and only a simple idea is likely to be spread widely.

In the end, if we do save our Republic, which began in the time of the Boston Tea Party with other simple actions, this will be accomplished again by simple, comprehensible actions that any citizen may join in.

On the curve of possible actions and impacts in the present time, this stands out as having the greatest potential benefit for its ease of participation.

HEADLIGHTS ON.  Bush-Cheney GONE.

They should have been gone long, long ago.  Their wars, their corruption, their anti-America and world-destroying agenda.  This coup by a business faction against our Republic and Constitution.

We are the majority, and we are right.

The majority wants them gone, by resignation or impeachment.

They intend to continue as if we didn’t exist.

(The rest of the story...)

We are not powerless.  We cannot be powerless.  We cannot wait for others to act, and we have many peaceful ways to put an end to this madness.

We need only to find each other.  We need to make our majority visible.

We see each other every day out on our roads.  Half of those we see out there want Bush-Cheney out.  But we cannot read minds through our car windshields.  And so we are left in doubt and isolation.

Once it is known widely that HEADLIGHTS ON means "BUSH-CHENEY OUT" and  "WAR OVER," each of us will have the choice to join with others at the flick of a light switch.

If that happens, then we may soon have our country back.  We will certainly raise the pressure for change.

You may consider that many other ideas for direct action or civil disobedience could have greater or different impacts, but may also have a higher threshold of participation.  Agreed.  This type of action experiment should pave the way to those stronger ideas being explored, or shaped into more effective actions.

As a follow-on to HEADLIGHTS ON,  for example, a ONE-MINUTE HONK at noon each day might require more courage to begin in one‘s own town, but, once begun, would be a "louder voice" in the call for the usurpers’ removal.

Help us achieve critical mass.  Help the exercise of direct democracy succeed.  Help remove inappropriate hands from the buttons of power.  Help save our planet.

Drive out Bush-Cheney with the true strength of our decency.

  •  I don't need the tips, but... (12+ / 0-)

...just think for a moment about a few things.

We are all most clever and quite erudite here, and the urge to snark burns within each of us.

Indeed, a dozen young men and women sat on a dormitory couch nearly 30 years ago watching a Nixon speech on the TV, and ripped him a shiny new one with our clever interruptions.  And that pre-Watergate Nixon could at least put a coherent sentence out there, while he killed two million innocent Asians.

So, look where we are today.  The descending trajectory of Nixon to Reagan to Bush.  For me, 47 years of stepping up to the plate to take a swing against these guys.

The Age of Irony is over, because its toss at expressing intelligence with no power behind it is ultimately steamrollered by Corporate Fascism along with any other separate minority that might have posed an alternative to the straight-up feudal State.  Divide and rule works well enough without us helping it along.

In the end, only your simplest and most positive contributions have the prayer of a chance to count.

We need to offer some baby steps for the majority of we the "little people" to begin learning how to take and hold political power.

Belling the Cat -- Aesop's Fables

Long ago, the mice had a general council to consider what measures they could take to outwit their common enemy, the Cat. Some said this, and some said that; but at last a young mouse got up and said he had a proposal to make, which he thought would meet the case. "You will all agree," said he, "that our chief danger consists in the sly and treacherous manner in which the enemy approaches us. Now, if we could receive some signal of her approach, we could easily escape from her. I venture, therefore, to propose that a small bell be procured, and attached by a ribbon round the neck of the Cat. By this means we should always know when she was about, and could easily retire while she was in the neighbourhood."

This proposal met with general applause, until an old mouse got up and said: "That is all very well, but who is to bell the Cat?" The mice looked at one another and nobody spoke. Then the old mouse said:

"It is easy to propose impossible remedies."

I've watched more closely the past week; I don't see as many daytime lights as I expected.  (Maybe we're too poor out here to have such new cars?)

AND, as with all growing memes, at the point of critical mass, the daytime lights get subsumed into the "political statement" crowd.

Such an "exception" does not render the idea ineffective.  Every idea has some level of "noise" nipping at its effectiveness, no?

Most people have a remembered sense of what is normal to see out there.  They would notice a difference, if they were looking for it.

It either goes, or it doesn't -- not because of anything we say here, but because it is wanted by the millions.

At this point, doing it is less important than spreading the idea, or improving on it as you are trying to do...

Another point:  most new cars turn their lights on as soon as you turn the key.  How will people know who are the protesters and who's just got a newer car?

In some states, you must have headlights on to drive in construcion areas, in inclement weather, to be part of a funeral procession. I've seen commercial vehicles with stickers saying "lights on for safety."

I'm sorry, but I don't see this idea working.

This is not a logical response.  It is not responsive to the proposal.

What would be more logical and at least blankly responsive to say would be to proffer that "it is unlikely that this would ever get going", and I would agree -- if I had to bet all my money on it.

Unfortunately, my country and my children's future is already bet on it, and so I have to take my best shot.

And, do my best to get something going.

And, I would have predicted that 50% of people would say "This would never get going."  How's that for a prophetic imagination?

The problem is, we are too f'ing close to being self-fulfilling opinionators in this matter, aren't we?  (Unless, of course, you're one of those bus riders...)

Bumper stickers are a good start. Freeway blogging? Another excellent way to make the point, IMO.

  •  Have vigils at Congressional district offices. (0+ / 0-)

Organize an indefinate round-the-clock protest vigil in front of these Congressional offices.  Set up schedules to have someone there (preferably two or more people) in shifts continuously until that Congressman introduces, co-sponsors or votes for Impeachment.

A continuous vigil isn't easy, of course, but it would get media attention and eventually force the Congress to take action.

    proves itself once more.

In an era of political repression, the first casualty is the imagination.

The next is the faculty of logic.  The ability to read, comprehend, and discuss matters in the field of political science on a collegial level.

The final is the will to resist, and live.  (Or at least live within the confined borders of such repression.)

It is easier to grope on through the days in a state of suspended existence, neither hoping greatly nor accomplishing much for oneself or others.

This is not the individual's fault, but merely his failure to attempt to be more than the product of his environment.

People wait for leaders, and meanwhile snipe at their fellows who, believing in equality, will not present themselves in the easy mantle of illusory leadership.

Sorry, not enough time for such moves ... this is all I can spare for now.  How will you spend your time?  Creating ideas, or shooting them down?

We are all here voluntarily, and giving of our time and mental energy, sacrificing other, more profitable pursuits.

This is why those who rule with "Shock and Awe", find it so easy to sweep entire peoples into the shallow ditches of annihilation.  Because simple people will not take simple steps to protect themselves from others accumulating unwarranted power over them...

Oh yeah, I forgot to say:  20% is enough to get lots of things going... we'll see!  (Just a tiny tear over the rest.)  But, of course, it was up to you all along...  ("What did YOU do during the Bush Regime, Daddy?")

I'm going to jump on the nay-wagon here...

As others have pointed out, activating your car's headlights is not unique to a protest action.

Here's an idea: stop driving your car.  Stop buying gasoline.  Stop polluting the common air with your toxic shit.  Ride your bicycle, walk, and take the bus instead.  That is real action, not an empty gesture like turning on your headlights.

I got pilloried on this site for suggesting that Bush had been approached to resign earlier in the year.

Now that hasn't ocurred just yet, but I am still thinking it is a

Once he is disgraced and compromised by the exposure of the perversion of the Justice Department the Supreme Court won't be able to save his worthless hide on key usurpations of auocratic power.
