I know there are those who say that we should take every Democrat in Congress that we can get. I don't recall us saying the same thing when Zell Miller was wreaking havoc in our halls. The fact of the matter is, Joe Lieberman has picked up where Miller left off - although if Zell was on crack, then Joe seems as though he's perpetually taken bad trips on LSD. His foreign policy views are similarly identical to Bush's positions - point to a clear distinction between the two, and I'll give you a fair amount of cash. Now come more Fox News talking points from Lieberman, who
stated his support for elections to go forward on January 30:
By LOLITA C. BALDOR, Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON - Sen. Joe Lieberman (news - web sites), traveling in the Middle East Wednesday, said there is strong support in Iraq (news - web sites) for the Jan. 30 election, and postponing it would only be a victory for the insurgents.
In a telephone call from Tel Aviv, Israel, the Connecticut Democrat said conditions in Iraq, including an increase in trained Iraqi security forces, have improved since his last visit in July. And he said the escalating violence aimed at intimidating Iraqis to postpone the election or not vote is not working in most of the country.
Damn, Joe, how can you hold an election if you don't have the workers necessary to run an election? And are you paying attention to reality at all? It doesn't seem like most Iraqis liked how last year went for them.
The problem with the Democratic Party is its lack of cohesiveness. We lack a clear message on the war on Iraq and the 'War on Terror' because there are people in the party who feel like the only way we can pump up our national security credentials is by 'being tough' and thus coming off as complete fools by 'talking tough'. Whenever Kerry said he was going to hunt down and kill the terrorists, it made me uncomfortable because it sounded so...contrived. By nature, the Democratic Party is not belligerent; we believe we can sit down and have a reasonable discussion about the issues. That's why we're such a split party. Now we have hawks such as Joe Lieberman stating their hawkish views on foreign policy, and there's not enough leadership in our party to stand up and say enough is enough. If we're supposed to be the opposition, then we need to figure out what we stand for - and it better not be what Bush administration believes in. Unfortunately, that's what Joe Lieberman is for the Bush administration - a compliant mouthpiece for their incompetent foreign policy.
Here's another statement from Lieberman:
Lieberman, who visited Iraq, Israel and Jordan during the trip, also voiced support for the upcoming Palestinian presidential election.
"There is a real possibility that this will go off without a real hitch," Lieberman said. "We've got some momentum here that we can encourage and support. It holds some hope of a real breakthrough."
Just don't give it Joementum, Joe. It might be best to keep your mouth shut.
