There has been a lot of talk about gas prices lately. You can't blame people for discussing this issue when, at the time I am writing this (March 26), the cost of a gallon of regular gas in the area is over $2.00.
I've heard all manner of talk from experts and industry insiders about how it's a lack of refineries that are the cause of astronomical rise in fuel prices, or supply is tight, or many other such excuses and arguments.
The one thing I've not heard mention in any of the media, is how for the last few years, at prices around $1.00 a gallon, give or take a few cents, oil companies have posted record profits.
If they're making more money than they ever have before, why can't they build more refineries to bring down the price or simply cut the price and not make so much money?
So it would seem that the true cause of the recent spike in gas prices is just pure, plain old-fashion GREED.
Maybe part of these record profits could somehow be diverted to alternative fuel source research and development?
