I just watched the instant-classic clip from last nights' GOP debate in which Ron Paul--apparently the only sane candidate of the entire batch--explains thoughtfully, carefully, in a way that is detailed while still remaining easy for the layman to understand--his opposition to the Iraq invasion in 2002 and his call for us to leave as soon as possible now.
The entire clip runs about 4 1/2 minutes.
I'd doubt I'd vote for him for President, but I was impressed and astonished at how he managed to squeeze a well thought-out, rational position on such an important issue into such a limited time span. THIS is the GOP that I used to have some amount of respect for. He gave the historical perspective, the true conservative philosophy about foreign policy, and even invoked the Patron Saint of the GOP, Ronald Reagan, as a reason to quit jamming our finger into other nations' eyes.

...and then...
...in a matter of a few seconds time...
...Rudy Giuliani, assisted by the rabid FOX audience, demonstrated EVERYTHING that's wrong with todays' Republican Party in a single display of retarded, tunnel-visioned, braying-sheep idiocy.
They didn't listen to ONE F*CKING THING that Paul had said. All Rudy had to do was utter the words "September 11" to cause the mindless sheep to go wild.
The icing on the cake? The moderator specifically deciding to change the subject, from one of the most important topics in our nation today, to...
Flying the Confederate flag.
I realize that this isn't terribly profound to note; it's just so rare to see so many idiotic traits crystalized into a singular moment like this.
God help us all.
PS: The moderator actually drove this point home even more with the actual wording of the question, when he asked "Are you out of step with your party, is your party out of step with the world, and if so, why are you seeking its nomination?"
He spoke truer than I suspect he ever intended right there.
