In a
recent Alternet story by Rory O'Connor, Joe Klein removes all doubt as to which orifice his head is lodged in:
...[L]et me react by speaking to the facts. After all, I've lived my life by seeking out facts and then reporting them. One advantage I think I have over other columnists is that I do reporting."
Klein says he will "have a lot more to say on this (NSA) issue next week -- but first I have to learn more about it."
Asked for an example, Klein says, "The notion of calling it wiretapping is questionable, I think, although I'm still not entirely sure.
"People like me who favor this program don't yet know enough about it yet," he says, "Those opposed to it know even less -- and certainly less than I do."
The bolded parts help illustrate just what a fuckwad Joe Klein actually is. Despite not knowing enough about the NSA program, he still supports it? That's like someone telling you to go see a movie because it's "totally fucking sweet," and then telling you that they've never seen it. What the fuck?
I swear, the only thing bigger than the gaping flaws in his journalistic integrity is the gaping hole where Bush's brain should be.
More from our buddy Joe:
But these concerns pale before the importance of the program. It would have been a scandal if the NSA had not been using these tools to track down the bad guys. There is evidence that the information harvested helped foil several plots and disrupt al-Qaeda operations.
There is also evidence, according to U.S. intelligence officials, that since the New York Times broke the story, the terrorists have modified their behavior, hampering our efforts to keep track of them--but also, on the plus side, hampering their ability to communicate with one another.
It turns out that Klein, who claims to live his life by seeking out facts, actually avoids facts like Connecticut yuppies avoid black people.
He repeated the debunked GOP talking points that the program "saves lives" and has "foiled attacks." But FBI Director Robert Mueller seems to be saying that the domestic wiretapping hasn't led us to any Al Qaeda members.
Whereas Joe sees the program "disrupting Al Qaeda operations," the FBI sees it was disrupting the waiters at Pizza Hut, because that's where they say their leads are going. And instead of reporting that domestic wire-tapping was not even brought up when the AUMF gave Bush all his sweet, sweet power, Klein insteads repeats the GOP talking points without rebuttal as if Ken Mehlman's hand were stuck up his ass, puppeting his every word. Instead of reporting fact, Klein prefers to revel in his perceived role as a "respected liberal columnist" and a "spokesmen for liberals," when the truth of the matter is we'd rather have a lupus-stricken howler monkey as our spokesman.
Bottom line, Joe Klein wouldn't know journalistic integrity if it took a shit on his chest. Supporting something that you don't understand is what pretentious assholes do when looking at art. "Oh, it sends a very strong message from the artist! Hmm? Oh, I don't know what the message IS, but it's very strong!"
The only thing strong around here is the bond between Klein's lips and Bush's ass.
