The inimitable PIG stated in his last post that "Bush Won" in his press conference because "the 37%" will buy the rosy spin put forth by George W. Bush and his army of right wing media apologists.
It is time to state the obvious, folks: that 37% is his base, the core of Fox News Channel's mouth breathing audience; and what they think is irrelevant to our purposes -- they've been with the Maniac in Chief from the gate and will remain firmly embedded up his ass through election night.
They are not the ones whose opinions matter this year. I think I lose sight of that sometimes, when I begin despairing at the horrifically right wing slant to the media spin. THAT 37% DOESN'T MATTER -- they're a guaranteed 37% in his corner.
Who matters:
--Every single person who voted for Gore in 2000 and saw their majority vote hijacked by Bush and his Supreme Court pimps.
--Every single repentant Nader voter.
--Every single would-be voter who stayed home in 2000 because they believed it didn't matter.
--Every single disillusioned true Conservative who sees Bush's economic policy as a wanton trend to be resolutely resisted.
--Every single true Christian who believes this war is wrong (and they are LEGION) and is willing to sacrifice their anti-abortion vote for an anti-war vote.
--Every single 18 year old first time voter; especially the ones in college, whose number leans leftward in a vast majority.
--Every single woman who knows enough about the importance of the Supreme Court appointments to find the Bush Administration's blatant disregard for reproductive rights terrifying.
--Every single truly undecided voter who will weigh the cost/benefit analysis of their decision with the trepidation and painstaking timidity of little modern day Hamlets.
--Every single recalcitrant Nader voter/"progressive" who feels disenfranchised and insists s/he will "vote my conscience" unless convinced otherwise.
In summary: It ain't the 37% and their slavish devotion to the pablum dropped into their open mouths we need fear. It is the 63% who must be reminded constantly, vociferously and convincingly that the future of their individual lives, their country and their world rests squarely on their shoulders as voters, Americans and humans.
