Hey, sorry if I'm jumping the gun and stepping on toes, but just in case nobody was gonna do a WYFP thread tonight, I'm here to ask what your fuggin' problem is.

WYFP?

Mine: the impact of anti-immigrant panic on employment. Not mine-- I'm quitting my job to write fulltime-- but several of my students have had their hours cut back or have been unable to find jobs because of the mass deportations that are going on sub rosa.

My students are ESL teachers. They rely on immigrants for their jobs-- just some of the millions of Americans who do.

But that's not what WYFP is about. It's our Saturday night whine 'n' cheez party, so pull up a chair and tell us your FP... and if someone else comes along who's sposta to be the offical Problem Fugger, I'll delete!

        •  Thats exactly what happened to one of mine

          We spent a whole day looking for her - inside and outside of the house.  I had even posted pictures of her around the neighborhood.  

          When we had found her, she had spent an evening and a good part of the next day in the basement.  She looked exactly as you've described - dusty and full of cobwebs.  Our other pootie hissed and snarled at her as if she didn't recognize her own sister!

  We're gonna be all over this in just a minute.

  No real FP here, just my chronic plantar fascilitis.  My podiatrist has me going through physical therapy to see if that will ease the pain in my feet.  The therapist tried a couple of things, but what’s worked the best so far is the way she tapes my feet.  It holds the arch and keeps the plantar fascia relaxed, which (very surprisingly to me) keeps my heels from hurting so much.  I feel like those poor Chinese ladies that used to get their feet bound.    Sleeping with taped feet is kind of annoying, but the annoyance is nothing compared to the relief I’ve gotten from the pain.  So I endure the tape.

  The therapist has me doing leg strengthening and stretching exercises, which I don’t mind at all because I’m rewarded afterwards with a fantastic deep foot massage.  Ooooh, baby!

  The only trouble with this is that I can’t see how this therapy anything but a temporary solution.  I’m sure I’ll have to have surgery again.  Blech!

  •  Two things.......

    really helped me to the point that I don't have a problem anymore after hobbling around for years: Birkenstocks and a night brace to keep the foot stretched into position.  Here is the place I bought the night brace LINK - it was worth every penny.  And I live in Birkenstocks.  Put them on first thing in the morning to support the metatarsals.  If I even try another brand I pay for it with pain.

        I forgot to include the link!  

        I know they are annoying to get use to but it really does the trick to keep the ligament and tendons fro shortening up on you which is what causes the pain.  I did all kinds of stretches for months on end to no avail, but the brace worked to the point I don't have to wear it anymore.

          I need something for my back, which seems to be turning into my lifelong fallback FP.  I don't know if I've screwed it up again, or if it's just residual stress from the post-funeral spring from hell.

          I've been waking up with my back in absolute agony.  And don't tell me it's my mattress -- we've got a Tempurpedic mattress, which I love.  I've been waking up in knots since Mom's funeral, long before we even got back home.  The only night I didn't have problems was the night I spent three hours popping in and out of my cousin's hot-tub.

            Are you giving yourself enough space to let it happen?  It sounds to me like the back pain might have something to do with a block in the emotions, given the circumstances you describe.

            Of course, that's just an impression from one comment, so I could be way off.

              in the grieving room here.  I'm in limbo land on the job hunt/moving plans.  I got a nastygram from sibling #1, trying to blow more smoke up my butt.  Sibling #2, who's actually trying to fix the mess sibling #1 made, is still wading through paperwork for our lawyer.  Meanwhile, I still haven't had a decent cry.  

              So yeah, you picked up on the root cause, right enough.

            a comfy recliner and a heating pad try sleeping in the chair a couple of nights.  It helps my hips from hurting as I am a side sleeper in a bed.  But I can sleep on my back semi-reclined just fine.  And there is just something about that heating pad that knocks me right out!

              I've been wanting a hot-tub for years.  But I want to buy a house first -- I mean, how the hell can I lug a hot-tub from rental to rental?

              And I'll tell you what -- I'm readjusting my priorities for fixer-upper houses.  It used to be that the first project would absolutely have to be building the killer kitchen.  No more.  A killer greenhouse is first, complete with hot-tub.  I don't think I'll have any problems convincing my husband of the wisdom of such a plan.  :-D

    •  I had "shockwave" done on my right foot

      about 3-1/2 years ago.  For a while, the pain was completely gone, but started coming back last summer, and now it's almost as bad as before.

      The good thing about shockwave is that they don't actually cut you.  I just don't like going under, because you can't stay awake for the procedure.

      My podiatrist says very few of his patients have had a recurrence, and he's suggesting it was because I didn't keep up on my foot stretching exercises.

      But I have an inclination to want to agree with the "racket" thing.  It's very discouraging.

        I think it's a kind of permanent recurring problem.  I hate to tell you, but I've had it off and on since I was 15.  I'm 51 now.

        •  My foot problem is a rebuilt ankle, left, which

          is now having to do extra duty for the opposite knee, which wore out after years of subbing for the injured ankle.  I worked a half day at the library (volunteering, hoping they get funding so they can hire me, a newly minted M.S. in Info Science), and then got a call to sub in for a cantor at the Vigil Mass.  I wore the same shoes--Merrell's, but Oh, my aching arch.  Stress fracture.  What really helps are the lidoderm patches which cost like the dickens.  Now if I can just find the rest of them in the house . . . .

          I also check the "ennui" box this week, although it might be more, oh, pissed-off-but-I-don't-have-gas-money-to-go-to-Washington-to-protest pissed off.

          About 6 yrs ago I put on a huge amount of weight with my last baby, and in desperation started running (way too much, in bad shoes) to lose the fat.  I developed PF, which hurts unbelievably!  I spent about a year on Vioxx, which helped a lot, with stretching and rest.  So I thought it was cured.  Then I took a job working at a church, on the ground floor, in heels (concrete slab floors).  By the time I quit I almost couldn't stand and they had taken vioxx off the market.  So nothing really helped.  My Doc said to soak in warm water and take NSAIDs, doubling the dose.  Didn't help much at all.  I've been stretching and taking the meds, till a couple of weeks ago when someone suggested ice.  That has actually allowed me to cope.  Now that schools out it'll ease up.  But am I gonna have to deal with this every single year?

            •  I learned that this week

              in Vegas -- walked from the Flamingo down to the Wynn (to see SPAMALOT) in Leve1 1 Easy Spirit shoes -- they look nice with my pants and are great for short walks, but not that distance; my feet and legs were killing me the next day. My Level 3's, on the other hand, I think I could walk from here to San Jose with no problem. :)

              My main problem in that vein is that my left leg is larger than my right, due to a major infection I had about 15 years ago (I came close to actually losing the leg). Makes it difficult to find knee high panty hose or any socks that won't cut off the circulation in that leg, except for Hanes women's socks. I'm hopeful but not optimistic that the weight loss will alleviate the problem. It's also the reason why I rarely if ever wear dresses if I can help it -- if one looks at my ankle region it's quite noticeable.

  •  Bad feet suck

    I have hyperpronating metatarsals, my arches are too high, and I get huge calluses.  This has led to screwed up knees.

    Nothing much they can do short of major surgery that probably wouldn't help and would put me in bed for a month at a time for each foot, and on crutches for a total of 4 months

      I had my feet crushed in a head-on collision 5 years ago (right foot worse than the left).  My right foot was reconstructed using cadaver bone and bone from my pelvis. Not a day goes by without some stranger asking if I am limping because I've sprained my ankle. I just smile and say "Yes," and listen to their advice on ice, physical therapy, glucosimine, or fill-in-the-blank. But chronic foot pain is not a fucking problem anymore, it is just routine. I have other fucking problems.

    Went to an actual podiotrist - he gave me a series of 3 corticosteroid shots directly into the tendon -good as new!  Ask about it.

  Ennui.

  I’ve lived in the same house with the same person (dear old dad) for 25 years. The same town, the same people, the same stores, the same beach, the same weather, the same everything...and I’m bored as hell. I’m starting to get serious about needing a change of scenery, but that’s where I get stuck.

  I have no idea where I want to go, or what I want to do with my life. I have no idea who I want to be with, what kind of living environment I want, where I want to work...

  And anyway, I’m stuck. My earnings for the next three months have been spent on YearlyKos (and I’m buying an iPhone when they come out next month...I want one, and I deserve one, dammit).

  I won’t bore you all with details, but I’ve had some interactions with some fellow Kossacks that have led me to believe I’ll never amount to anything in my current state (physically and mentally), and since I can’t change the mental, I’m starting work on the physical. I’ll spare you the gory details on that, too (but you could find it on dKos if you really wanted to, I suppose). Suffice it to say that I’m unattractive and undesirable, and damn sick of it.

  But yeah, ennui is my middle name.

          When I get in my "moods", I find that I'm going through life as if I have blinders on.  I can't see anything else except what I'm focusing on in front of me.

          Sometimes it gets bad.  I can't see the joy in life.  I'm too focused on ... things.

          At some point, I have to force myself to look up into the sky and marvel at the vastness of it all.  It actually makes me feel small, which for me, is good.  It reminds me that my problems are, in reality, also small.  At least compared to many others who have things much worse than me.

    •  I read a short story once

      about staring holes in clouds.  I told my kids and they thought they really did have the power to do it.  It's cool - you have to pick the right kind of cloud, and if you do, you can watch holes form if you wait long enough.
