Is there anything more surprising than AARP's "shift" in attitude about the new drug bill?
After the fact AARP is now saying the bill doesn't go far enough, that drug companies raised prices THREE times in the last year (once when congress passed the bill, again when Bush signed it and then just because they could).
Sadly, this is too little too late, yet it is one more example of how this administration has NO intention of helping "regular" people in this country.
As most know by now, the drug bill was contested by many people as costing too much money for few if any benefits. AARP supported this bill, saying it was better than nothing. Given that so few seniors have signed up for the "discount" cards, one can safely say this bill is a failure before it even gets off the ground.
My mom is in Kaiser and was sent 3 booklets on the new benefit. After reading through the almost 10 combined pages on this new bill I was left more confused than before.
As seniors are one of the most reliable voting groups this may be the "straw that broke the camels back" for Bush. Seniors were taken down the road and left by the wayside while the drug companies are being given a free ride in limos.
We will wait and see what happens, but at this point Democrats (IMHO) need to get on the same page with talking points on this issue.
