Once upon a time in a land far away known as the Kingdom of Blog there was a King George who hoped for his son Prince Georgie to inherit his kingdom.
But Prince Georgie was a rebellious and dyslexic child who listened not to his elders.
The King counseled his son:
"Georgie there are only two things you need to know to follow in my footsteps.
The first is to always act like a holy man. You must pray a lot and talk about God at all times. If you do this people will love you and follow you no matter how you mistreat them or what you do.
And the second is that you must never threaten the subway system. The Nobles hate the subway but the people love it, old and cranky as it may be, and there is still much power in its third rail.
Just do these two things, Georgie, and you too can be King."
But Prince Georgie was a rebellious and dyslexic child who listened not to his elders. For years all his works turned to dust and failure.
Then one day he decided, "I will do exactly as Father taught me."
And Georgie did prosper and became King and was widely regarded as holy. His father had truly spoken well, and even though King Georgie robbed from the peasants and gave to the Nobles and waged unjust war and spent the peoples money like a drunken sailor he was beloved, for he prayed often.
In the fullness of time King Georgie did defeat all challengers to his throne and his holiness was so highly regarded that he announced, "The time has come, my peasants, for us to face the facts and cut the power to our old and socialistic subway. For it is a crisis and I am holy and have a mandate and political capitol.
And there was consternation throughout the Kingdom of Blog, for the subway was also holy. Still it could not be denied that King Georgie had am mandate and political capitol.
And the Oracle Greenspan was consulted, for though he was neither a Christian nor holy he still had proven time and again that he could peer into the future and see exactly what the King wished to be seen and the Oracle pronounceth: "Although the long term trends of citizen subway usage adjusted for population aging and increasing energy costs but moderated by private savings of increased private sector transportation and factoring in the tax revenues there derived may argue for a policy of continued semi support for metal wheeled people conveyance, nonetheless when one factors in the additional costs created by an aging infrastructure and the undue burden of increasing healthcare costs for public sector workers, the concept of destruction of the public trust is not one to be taken lightly - nor heavily either."
And so it came to pass that the brave King Georgie went to the Subway station with all of his Knights and Nobles and, gathering around him his mandate and political capitol did reach down and push upon the third rail.
