So since i just had a diary that dissed on Kerry, i want to applaud him in this one.
Kerry was in Mississippi campaigning today. not surprisingly, he encountered the gay marriage question from a black woman. as i have said before, people who try to compare gay rights to black civil rights risk looking really ignorant because there is incredible resistance in the black community to this parallel and people take a lot of offense. i know. i've tried to argue this with a lot of well meaning colored folk and they just don't see it. the amount of ignorance and paranoia from other well-educated, socially conscious folks continues to boggle my mind. It's kinda like you'd think the Israelis would be nicer to the palestinians since they have suffered all this oppression historically--nope, uh uh. not the way human nature works.
Kerry said gay rights was a civil rights issue and linked the lynching of Matthew Shepherd to the guy in Jasper, TX. very good. keep preachin it John, and slowly, my fellow colored folks will wake up to reality!
Go Kerry!
