Chetry/Roberts/CNN give Ann Coulter time of Day - WHY????

Thu Jun 28, 2007 at 04:24:57 AM PDT

I'm on a business trip right now, and I don't have a hell of alot of time, but I'm watching TV and there is smoke coming out of my ears.

Kieren Chetry - as hot as she is, is making me sick right now.

She and her co-host John Roberts for the last half hour at lesat have been talking about the Elizabeth Edwards and Ann Coulter story and trying to make it seem like there are two sides to it.

They are asking

Did Elizabeth take Ann out of context?
Is Elizabeth overreacting?

Doesn't Ann just do this all the time, why is everyone making such a big deal out of it.

Is this going to be "bad for Edwards" that he needs his wife to stand up to him".

Why is Ann Coulter even on TV. CNN - YOU SUCK!

Sorry I can't add too much more, but the eyes of Kossacks (and other patriotic Americans) need to be everywhere watching for BS like this, and calling it out.

John talking to Eliz Edwards at 8:15 - I'll be at work. I'm sure one of you out there will pick up where I need to leave off.

    •  You ask why she is on TV? (4+ / 0-)

Simple.  Because whenever she speaks, the Left goes into a frenzy of outrage; it's just what she and television producers love.  There have been no less than 35 Coulter-related diaries in the last 3 days (I counted the story tags) and you have just added yet another.

So long as we keep her relevant by talking about her, she'll get booked.  It's that simple.

      •  it isn't just (6+ / 0-)

        "the left" that is outraged.

Ann Coulter is scum. Anyone giving her airtime needs their advertisers clubbed over the head.

I will say this much: quit complaining directly to MSM. ANY response to them is probably treated as "fan mail from a viewer", whether it is or not. TURN. IT. OFF. and start calling those advertisers.

this morning and saw that Couler would be on.  I guess MSNBC didn't concur with my e-mails. Big suprise.  Anyway, I clicked the TV off so as to not enable this nonsense and let it affect my day.  Then checked with husband about our cable package and what options we have.  Unfortunately, one has to get the news channels if you want the golf channel.  Why can't we get a line item veto on cable?

I'm so glad I went back to work recently. I only have enough time and energy to watch Keith Olbermann and check you guys and gals out here. I get my truth in bite size pieces. No more super-sized MSM lies and fluff. I feel much better now.

Chetry is an alumna of Fox Noise.  The other morning she was discussing the pending Supreme court decisions and then said something to the effect of lets talk about something more interesting...you guessed it, I think it was Paris somebody.  She at least had the grace to realize she had embarassed herself on national telivision.  I don't understand why they even bother to let her discuss serious issues.  She can't pronounce half of the names on the world stage, has no grasp of the issues, and clearly is not interested in anything beyond entertainment.  Course there are times when I suspect Roberts of the same idiocy.

the right talking point is this:
she is a "provocateur" when the fact is that she is a bully. Plain and simply she is a media BULLY and all the pathetic loser lapdogs of the press, run like children to go "ooh and ahh" when attacks.

It gives them all something to talk about (besides Paris) since most of them are afraid to talk about the unjust war; the economy the hurts most Americans.

Yesterday or the day before, Warren Buffet made a statement about his taxes saying that he only paid 17% of his income in taxes and that he believed that was LESS percentage wise than someone who worked as clerical staff.   He challenged CEO's to come forward if they could say that they were paying MORE percentage of their income than the clerical staff in their offices.

Where was the discussion about that?
You won't hear that discussion on any of the shows because the media giants and their well paid sock puppets don't want the people to focus on that disparity.  Instead they will spin the Coulter crap for hours questioning the honesty and sincerity of a decent human being like Elizabeth Edwards.

It is a sickness that is pervasive in the news business.....dishonesty and spin to make sure they are

      over at Fox.

The last month or so before she left "Faux friends," she and Brian (aka "that guy who's not Steve Doucy") were visibly fueding, seething, and loathing each other. Brian would literally make fun of mistakes that Chetry made. It was quite cringeworthy.

MSNBC created this lunacy by hosting Ann Coulter.

MSNBC is turning into a cheap ratings whore, which despite a reported modest jump in viewership, also guarantees that it will eternally remain in last place where it belongs.

  •  What did you expect? (0+ / 0-)

Did you really expect the MSM to NOT make this a "she said/she said" debate like they do with everything else?

As for talking about it for the last half hour, sorry but I give them a pass on this.  The reason for the talk was because Elizabeth was going to be on, as you point out, just as she was on 'Today' earlier, and just as she spoke out in her diary, above.

What's been bothering me, frankly, is that I've now heard both her and her husband doing the 'well its both the right and the left' bit regarding the hate speech, and the msm eating it up.  So my question is, really?  The left too?  Name ONE progressive person, who gets the screentime Coulter gets, that spews the crap she spews.

The best single comment I've heard or read on this whole train wreck came from that model of restraint, Randi Rhodes, who said on her show yesterday (paraphrasing from memory): "I'm not running for office, so I can say whatever I want.  I want to kick her in the nuts."

Yes, it was inexcusably crude, which made it the perfect way to address a sub-human like Coulter.

  •  Same goes for Edwards - Why respond to Coulter? (0+ / 0-)

    Hilton coverage.

as the bitterly envious Joe Scarborough pointed out this morning, it was 'all Paris all the time' last night on CNN.

The TV news has reached an all time low, IMHO.  You have two choices of editorial discretion: they're either blabbing on endlessly about Paris Hilton, or they're equating  E. Edwards defending her husband from  anncoulter's wishing him dead by terrorists to anncoulter pining away for terrorists to kill Edwards. It really is the bottom of the barrel when the networks equate decrying the filth spewing from coulter with the filth spewing from coulter-- and doing this as a break from the wall to wall celebrity news so that they appear to be a serious news source.

John Roberts had about a 30 second newsbyte concerning the White House subpoeanas this morning, sandwiched between all the other crap.

So much for the national discourse.

gives Ann Coulter the time of day--why???

Bloggers need to learn not tro get sucked into the politics of diversion, distraction and distortion, guess who always wins when that happens?  Guess whose messages and messengers get to dominate when that happens?  Granted, getting wound up by the latest right-wing shilling is emotionally satisfying and allows the reassurance that comes from being echoed in the MSM, but spending the same time and effort on the hard work of organizing might actually change something while the venting only reinforces the existing paradigm of citizen disempowerment.

Kiran Chetry really isn't that hot...and has no gravitas...but she must get good ratings...on Faux News or CNN because there really wasn't a good reason to replace Soledad who was winning awards for her Hurricane coverage....(even though she did have her huh? moments)

Seriously, the woman loves sinking to the bottom of discourse, she cannot complain she was "taken out of context", she thrives on the most negative literal, metaphorical, and pun-filled rhetoric.

Ann Coulter IS the context.  Read her books, listen to her "faggot" comment, there is no mistaking her for what she is, or what she means.  Saying Elizabeth Edwards took her out of context is like saying you don't understand English.  She makes money trashing our political discourse.  She makes her living by occupying a space in media and political discourse that is purely inflammatory, divisive, and intended primarily instigate sides into defensive or offensive political positions.  This is damaging to the US as much as Rwuandan radio was to that country after ten years of demonizing the Hutus, this is as damaging as every mass propaganda campaign against opposition parties in Germany during the Weimar Republic, and Russia during the cold war.  People invariably end up DEAD after years of exposure to similar diatribe.

I see Ann as perfectly serious about her viewpoints, some people mistake her extreme language for humor, but seriously, she is instigating her worshippers.

  •  My morning routine (0+ / 0-)

is to watch CNN from 7 to 7:20 AM while I'm finishing up getting ready to head off to work so that I can catch up on any big national/international stories that happened overnight.  Lately I find myself more and more heading over to BBC America because since the 2 O'Brians stopped doing the morning show, the stories that predominate are pretty much CRAP!

I mentioned this in a Gordon Brown thread yesterday. The difference between the two networks' news coverage is like night and day.
