ted sorenensen's speech for the dem nominee

i don't know if this has been diaried already. if it has i'll take it down, i don't want to bore you all with old stuff. some of you may also think this post is lacking in requisite comment or analysis. i'm thinking that commentary on my part would be gilding the lily, or more accurately, polishing a gem with peanut butter.

ted sorensen, you all probably know, was jfk's speechwriter. the washington monthly

...called Theodore C. Sorensen and asked him to write the speech he would most want the next Democratic nominee to give at the party convention in Denver in August 2008. We requested that he proceed with no candidate in mind and that he give no consideration to expediency or tactics—in other words, that he write the speech of his dreams.

it is a beauty.

his nominee is proud of his/her lineage:

his nominee draws a stark contrast to the previous regime:

Our nation is emerging from eight years of misrule, a dark and difficult period in which our national honor and pride have been bruised and battered.

his nominee offers the nation unity & change. please read the whole thing, especially those of you running for president.

  to re-recommend Sorensen's book Kennedy from 1965.  In addition to being one of the best, and unabashedly biased, insider book on Kennedy, it also is the first book I ever read that actually allowed me to understand macro-economics.

  I read this and sent it to several friends because I was so moved by it's message.   Glad you posted it here so it'll get wider viewership.  I'm hoping our nominee will lift up the party, the country, to uphold the ideals it was founded on and remind us all who we ARE as a nation.  The time is NOW!

  is a Obama fan. And has done some informal Obama advising. So I would guess Obama would have a speach closest to this. But any nominee would make a great speech, IMO.  

  Imagine Mike Gravel. He'd probably go on a tirade on the "fair" tax or something like that.
