10 things I hate about Libbygate

Well, it's not really hate. It's more like confusion.
1. Republicans, please define "Witch hunt". You have a Republican administration appointing a Republican special prosectuor to investigate a possible violation of law which even the Republican President admitted that he wanted to get to the bottom of. Is this a witch hunt led by witches or is this a non-witch hunt led by non-witches? Where is the opposition in all of this which would lead one to use the witch hunt analogy?
2. Republicans, related to the above confusion point, wasn't the time to pardon at the very beginning? Couldn't the Decider (Cheney) have looked at the situation, deemed no crime was committed, and declared this to the public? Why are you complaining about the millions wasted on this investigation when it was your guys that initiated it all?
3. Digby (and others), why the non-stop comparisons of Libby-gate to Monica-gate? I can see writing one post around the parallels and hypocrisy over Republicans being in uproar about lying under oath in a grand jury investigation with Clinton about sex, and then turning a blind eye to it when it involves Libby about national security, but beyond that, I don't see huge parallels, especially in the underpinnings of the scandal and investigation. Let me put this straight... Monica-gate was revenge for Iran-Contra and Watergate. Pure and simple. In all 3 instances, you had opposition parties appointing special prosecutors (under the special prosecution law in the more recent 2 scandals) to investigate, indict, and prosecute scandals all the way to the top. After the Nixon top echelon fell in the 1st scandal, and then practically the entire Reagan administration was investigated on the 2nd scandal, the Republicans wanted payback. Enter Ken Starr. I fail to see how the investigation, indictment and prosecution of an aide to Cheney by a fellow Republican is parallel in magnitude to gunning for the Big Dawg - leading to impeachment. Lefty bloggers... let go of the parallels. The disgusting merits of this case speaks for itself.
4. Watergate convicts, where are you in Libby's hour of need? Letters of support on sentencing day? Are you kidding me? Why aren't you sending him Prison for Dummies? Or how about writing a new one... How I became a Millionaire by doing time in a minimum security prison? If Libby doesn't do time, he doesn't cash in. Are you guys hoarding all the convict fame and fortune to yourselves? What is your true motivation for wanting him pardoned?
5. Republican base, where's your horse in this race? I can see going to bat for a tough guy like G Gordon Liddy or Oliver North. These guys are your guys! But Scooter Libby? He's the preppy guy you beat up and made fun of in your younger days. You want him pardoned?
6. Democrats in Congress, what's with the standing quietly on the sidelines and allowing justice to work it's way? That's not your modus operandi. There isn't a scandal in history that you haven't tried to put your imprimatur on. What gives? Taking too much Xanax lately?
7. Joe and Val, can you spare a dime? I mean seriously, you're gonna make millions on the book and movie rights. How about throwing a gee or two at rustydude. I'll do my part. I'll counter each and every one of madscientist's (from MLW) claims against you. I'll make shit up if I need to, and post it on every blog in support of your cause.
8. MSM, wake up already! You can handle more than one story at a time. Try to report on the relevant facts of all the important stories... attorneygate, outing covert CIA personnel, the re-start of the Cold War with Russia, and Cheney thumping the drums of war with Iran. You can do it. Drink an extra cup of coffee. If you have to, put down the entertainment page. There's nothing quite as boring as the 15 millionth story on where Anna Nicole's supposed inheritance will go.
9. Warmongers, that's you Bill Kristol, why are you so damned concerned about Scooter? You got bigger fish to fry. What possible consequence could pardoning Libby have on your greater plans for World dominance? In fact, if anything it would seem that pardoning Libby would drain further any remaining politcal capital that Dick and W have for launching those bombs you're so fond of. Move on. Your compassion for Scooter is as phony as your compassion for Iraq Civil War victims if America were to pull out of Iraq.
10. And finally... you... Libby... dude, who the hell are you protecting? Spill it fergodsakes. You think Cheney or Bush will ever have one ounce of compassion for you with or without a pardon? Huh uh. They're throwing you around like a wet rag doll in the jaws of a rotweiler. Get a clue. Put Fitzy on your speed dial and expand your cellular minutes plan. You have some talking to do.
