WYFP: Did we lose someone? Edition.

I really, really hope I'm not stepping on any toes here.  If so, I'll delete.  But since it's almost an hour late .......

WYFP is our community's Saturday evening gathering to talk about our problems, empathize with one another, and share advice, pootie pictures, favorite adult beverages, and anything else that we think might help. Everyone and all sorts of troubles are welcome. May we find peace and healing here.
Won't you please share the joy of WYFP by recommending?

        And my fp... A sore throat, cough, and a sinus headache out of this world. :P Politics makes me sick, I tell ya. Last week, I was supposed to go to a fundraising dinner for Eileen Dubin's new organization... we had free tickets and everything... I got sick. Like, throwing up, which I NEVER do. Dear hubby went and ended up being invited to eat dinner with Dick Durbin. :P I was SOOOO jealous. Then, we were supposed to go to John's last night to get this blog up (until the internal server errors happened, anyways :P ) and the night before that happened, I was up most of the night with a sore throat and cough.

        I'm sure you remember last year, edwardssl, when every time I said I would be at a parade, I would come down sick. It's politics. Maybe just politics in general is my FP. ;)

      •  Finally broke down and phoned the quacks when

        the fever was up to 104. We are a good Jersey Italian-American family, so there was a lot of screaming with BJ Dad threatening to phone 911. We are a bit like the Sopranos without the gun violence. Called the doc, and he said to use tylenol ansd phone him in the morning. I do not like to go to the ER in Jersey on Saturday night. We had some real adventures when the kids were young.

        When the big boys were still in nursery school, we tried to get them to bed early so that BJ Dad and I could work on a publication. Big mistake! Son 1 beaned son 2 with a bucket. Lots of blood. Off to the ER for stiches. I went in with son 2, and tried to keep him occupied so he would not see an elderly man(and his 75 elderly relatives) who was dying. We got up to Old MacDonald had a quagga bewfore the night was  over. BJ dad sat in the waiting room with son 2 (and various drug overdoses and gunshot victims). He was convinced that he had killed his brother. that never happened again.

          kind of person either.  Took me five days after getting salmonella to finally go to the ER.  They pumped me full of liquid and sent me home.

            was quite good. He said that they would pump me full of liquid and send me home. Of course, BJ dad and Son 2 had decided that I had brain damage because my fever was 104.

            BJ dad was quite good in the delivery room when I had my three kids. Of course, my sister and I had a plan B. If he really started to freak out when I went into labor, we were going to lock him in the closet with 2 pizzas and some soda, and my sister was going to take me to the hospital.

                When I show up at the ER, the receptionist asks me: Is this son 1, son 2, or son 3? I am sure that we have paid for a wing in our local hospital.

  My fucking problem is feeling crosswise with the world:  out of sync, out of rhythm, one step behind, and out of control; always trying to catch up, frequently wanting to say "wait, wait, I don’t get it," and feeling like the faster I go, the further behind I get.  It’s like one of those horrendous recurring dreams in which you cannot find the papers you need, the place where the test is being held, your clothes, your own home.  This is not exactly a first; I have experienced this feeling before.  Nonetheless, it always takes me by surprise and leaves me a bit breathless and slightly out of control.  I want to stop the world, and get off for a few minutes while I collect myself.

      I vaguely remember those good old days.  I used to read at least four books a week (not kidding), but now I keep rereading the same three pages of the same book I've been "reading" for about six months.

        Computers and Internets and this and that leave you with Adult ADD. I got it I think. Four bookshelves of books unread. Couldn't get past the first 3 pages. Kept saying surely I'll read this one; my favorite author. Nope. Ok I'll try this . Nope. I gave up after 75 of them .

        I quit smoking 6 years ago. That didn't help either. I feel better. But I don't watch TV or read anymore. Maybe one DVD a year.

        Must be some side effect of Moore's law that no one talks about. Multitasking so you try to do a a little of everything and end up doing nothing. Or something like that. Gadgets. I love em but they're killin me.

        That's my f--ing problem. lol. What was I saying?

        •  Too many new gadgets and I can't figure out how

          to work any of them.  I have a heart rate monitor so that I can keep track of my heart rate while exercising; the damn thing is not intuitive and I have to spend many frustrating minutes trying to get it to work when I use it.

          I just got a new cell phone after four years and the shiny new thing even takes pictures and I am barely able to make a call.  Actually, I never learned how to operate the old one, so this is nothing new.

          Dear hubby received a new camera for his 50th birthday and don't even get me started on how many ways I cannot use it, down load the photos, zoom, zig, zag, or organize the photos in some meaningful way.  I used to try to post photos of my garden in the gardening blog and just stopped as none of them came out in the right format, too small, too large, or they just wouldn't post.  

          We are going on a long RV trip soon so we decided that a GPS would help and at least I can turn it on and I have discovered how to tell it to take me home, the jury is still out on that one.  

          We upgraded my work computer (I work from home) but we still have the old outdated computer working next to it because we can't get all of the functions, like email, to transfer over smoothly.  

          We really, really, really need a system backup program but somehow we cannot decide on one and I am afraid that it will be complicated to operate.

          I can work my DVR and DVD players, but that is about it.

        Checked DKos and a few favorite sites. Did the laundry. Did a dump run, and came back with several items I didn't go there with. Took the daughter to the comic book store then out to lunch. Planted a bush, clipped some branches, dragged 'em to the burn pit. Poured a couple of fingers of vodka into a tall glass of lemonade. Took the fold-up lounger that I found at the dump out of the car, unfolded it under the shade of a big old maple, and kicked back with the lemonade until the sweat dried off and I damn well felt like doing something else.

        Leisure time it what and when you make of it.

      Turns out I have an oversized optic nerve, which leads to altered depth perception and a sizable blind spot on my right side.  Which doesn't save us  from broken junk and bruises on my right side, but explains it!
