Beating the drum against Iran....

Wed Jul 11, 2007 at 12:44:39 PM PDT

The floor of the Senate is now the soapbox for those Republican Senators doing W's dirty work. Leiberman, Kyl, McCain and now Graham are building the case for an attack on Iran. Each one has laid out the (scanty) evidence of Iranians crossing the border to participate in the insurgency within Iraq. They have tried to convince listeners that munitions and expertise in bomb making is directly linked to Iranians. And those poor Israelis are continuously threatened by Iran's government which doesn't believe Israel has the right to exist. Iran is kidnapping and holding hostages. Iran is SO evil.

I find this to be a diversionary tactic. These same Republicans have just voted against the Webb-Hagel amendment which would have given some degree of relief to our soldiers, some of whom are on their 4th tours with no end in sight. They don't support the soldiers. They only support WAR. I can't wrap my mind around how they can possibly continue to back this poorly thought-out Bush War and now even consider expanding it. McCain has just made a statement that we need Iran to help us stabilize the region - yet he and others continue to make puffed-up old men threats against Iran.
I think this undying devotion to Bush's war policy really boils down to protecting corporate interests in the oil resources of the Middle East. This whole charade and the delay in allowing any kind of withdrawel date is dependent on securing Iraqi oil and having a long term presense that will keep Iran "nervous."  But then - maybe I'm too cynical.

We've GOT to nuke Iran so Jesus can come again.....

I'm starting to think that's the REAL basis of W's foreign policy.......

Hey, it's the 21st century.  If you're hearing voices form God, it means you're mentally ill NOT on a mission from God.  And at least Joan of Arc actually led troops on the battlefield

The Republican Senators are trying to prepare the people for it as they did with Iraq eight years ago.  If Bush doesn't attack Iran the next Republican administration will.

    •  I dont dont think they will... (0+ / 0-)

... attack Iran. Who wants to start and loose two wars in a row? (In the 21 century!) And mind you, to loose just one aircraft carrier means loosing some 5000 people. Just too much of a risk.

All the wishful thinking in the world will not dampen the Republican desire to light up Iran and smack down the nuke program.  Its real - They know they have no shot in hell of another Republican executive for at least eight years.  Israel is pushing them HARD to join a joint mission to take out Natanz and a couple other targets.

As insane as you and I know it is for us to attack Iran, how foolish, ill-advised, and dangerous not to engage our "enemies" across the bargaining table instead of no-man's land...Have Bush and Cheney actually ever exhibited a modicum of restraint, wisdom, patience or sanity?

No...I believe we will attack Iran before too long.  Whether in the Fall or the Spring, the deal has already been made.  The plans are already being drawn up.

Rationality has nothing to do with these decisions.

amendment is going to pass. This pretty much means that the Bush government must report to Congress about all the incidents of Iranian interference in the war(s) in Iraq and Afghanistan. This is the set-up to engaging in more heated rhetoric with Iran and, of course, we can be absolutely sure that any information given by the Bush administration will be completely unbiased and accurate.

for his buddy Bennie Netanyahu. Indeed, the neocon PNAC'ers and AIPAC'ers are, and have been beating this drum for a long time. Joe came out of the closet several years ago to be their leader in the Senate...

He is a traitor to this nation. He is also betraying OUR troops, who he wants to sacrifice in Israel's name. FUCK JOE LIEBERMAN.

foreign and war policies? This is not the first time this has happened. Similar votes happened against Syria, and before that, Iraq. AIPAC and its related sister groups lobbied in the aisles for it then, and probably did this time too.

How disappointing is it that not even ONE fucking Democrat stood up against this war mongering! Not even one. We've already lost our government. It's all a joke, ....on us.

  •  Screw both the Bush administration and Iran! (0+ / 0-)

They both stink. Iran started on another round of executions - a man stoned to death for adultery. Some homosexuals. The usual subjects. In the last year Iran has arrested and harrassed human rights workers. As many as 150,000 have been charged with wearing unislamic clothing.

It is possible to be both a loathsome dictatorship and an enemy of the Bush administration at the same time, you know. Islamic dictatorships are indeed enemies of human rights just as much as any other dictatorship is. That doesn't mean that I agree with the wingnuts. Military action would be insane, and I think they know that.

  •  No big surprise (0+ / 0-)

All these assholes are on board for "empire" sponsored by the folks who really run America. Led by the neocons at PNAC with overlapping membership in AEI, The Council on Foreign Relations, JINSA, AIPAC, National Chamber of Commerce, The Hudson Institue, Business Roundtable, Business Council, their members include the power elite who decide whatever is decided of major consequence. The MSM is in their pocket.

We are nothing except cannon fodder and one of their sources of money to carry on with their "total war".

Iraq and Iran are on their hit-list because of their vast petroleum reserves. This is nothing new.

The Democrats will not willingly withdraw all American military from Iraq. The Achilles heel that might bring a stop to their quest for a Pax Americana is a severe economic downturn brought on by their lavish spending on the military and their own arrogance, ignorance and hubris.
