The LAST thing we need at this juncture is an impeachment resolution -- ye gods and little fishes! We're winning on the ISSUES. We need to address the ISSUES. Sure, Bush deserves to be impeached. Heck, the LOT of them deserve to be IMPRISONED. But calling for impeachment now will not get us what we really want, as I hope you agree.

I want my country back.
I want the deficit reduced; I want our brave troops and the National Guard home where they belong; I want to stop secret governmental spying into my private life and my phone calls and e-mails and bank records.
I want Medicaid to provide benefits to elderly poor people even if they don't have a passport (yes: this is real); I want American kids to have enough to eat and a decent education and health insurance; I want federal funding for stem cell research so that my 15-year-old niece (who was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes 13 1/2 years ago) has a chance for a cure and a normal life.
I want the world to respect us again. I want to close down Gitmo. I want a government that respects the Constitution and the Geneva Convention and the high ground we have always taken, which is not only morally right but which also earned us the respect and admiration of the entire world.
I want clean air and clean water and a protected Arctic National Refuge. I want our government to take steps to end global warming and the terrible damage it is doing to our beautiful Earth and the mesmerizing variety of species that inhabit it.
I want judges who respect the awesome power they have and uphold the Constitution. I want a country that respects the awesome responsibility entrusted to our judges and does not advocate their removal by violence.
I want to enjoy all the benefits of the First Amendment again: a robust press that is not charged with treason for publishing the truth, a robust citizenry whose diverse views are heard and respected, the right to say or write what I think and peacably assemble with others to petition for redress of my grievances -- and not just in a "free speech zone." I want to worship as I see fit.
I want to live again in a country that abhors torture and supports basic human rights throughout the world.
I want to live again in a country that honors its veterans (with appropriate benefits and respect) and honors its dead soldiers and the grieving Gold Star families they have left behind, and respects their opinions.
I want a government that doesn't lie to its citizenry and doesn't loot the treasury for the benefit of their super-rich cronies. I want a government that respects the rule of law.
I want a government that respects and celebrates our individualties and diversity.
I trust Jim Webb and Jon Tester and Barbara Ann Radnofsky and so many others to deliver this to us.
And I am CERTAIN that I won't get anything I so desperately want if we start screaming "impeachment" and rally the wingnuts and thereby lose the election.
Patience, please. This diary was inspired by the wise words of Kossak DalePeters, who is a veteran and knows what he is talking about.
