IMPEACHMENT is "ON THE TABLE" in LOS ANGELES

Progressive Democrats of Los Angeles joined the Westside and Los Angeles Greens and the Santa Monica Democratic Club to open the first national impeachment center on the 4th of July using this day to demand that Congress hold Bush and Cheney accountable.
The Los Angeles Impeachment Center is at the Peace Center near the Beverly Center at 8124 W. Third St. just west of Crescent Hts...a familiar location to anti-war activists. It was opened to coordinate and bring together all the various groups who have become enraged by the destruction of our constitution and the lies that took us into the ongoing war in Iraq.
The small room used for the inaugural ceremony and opening of the center was bursting with television crews, radio reporters, as well as the Los Angeles Times.
Press conference speakers included Los Angeles Congresswoman Maxine Waters, who has just become a sponsor on Congressman Dennis Kucinich's HR333 bill to impeach Cheney, former Assemblywoman Jackie Goldberg, and former congressional candidate Byron De Lear. All spoke later at the picnic in La Cienega Park where they were joined on the podium by former Assemblyman Paul Koretz, Shakeel Syed (Exec Dir of Islamic Shura Council, S.CA), Anthony St. Martin (pledgetoimpeach.org), and Ricco Ross (PDLA member and delegate in CA's 42nd AD).
Koretz was author of AJR39 introduced into the CA State Assembly in '06 to impeach both Bush and Cheney. It died in the rules committee at the end of the last session, Koretz was termed out, and no assembly member is now willing to re-author and introduce the bill. All those approached have stated that Speaker Fabian Nunez doesn't want the bill introduced, thus leading to the inevitable conclusion that he does NOT support impeachment.

Peter Thottam, the executive director of the center, plans to meet with activists at the center every Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m. and is currently circulating petitions to be used in lobbying our elected officials who are not responding to their constituents' demands.
Thottam reports that web hits to his site have increased by 2000% after the event Wednesday!!!
