the surge is working w/poll

Thu Aug 23, 2007 at 12:24:36 PM PDT

At http://www.truthdig.com/... there is a report that some Democrats are now buying into the possibility of 'winning,' in Iraq.  This is a kind of madness born of fear and ambition - fear that they'll predict defeat incorrectly and we'll find out because no one can stop Bush from trying, and ambition, that if they seem like nay-sayers and Bush pulls it off, they'll never win another election again.  Other than showing we have a lot of really dumb people in our congress, this weird support so late in the game when it's clear that it can only get worse, whether we leave or stay, and probably less worse the faster we leave, is a kind of 'bring 'em on' to the Iraqis who don't want to be occupied.

It's clear that Malaki wants us out, but hasn't the political power to demand we leave.  After all Bush may demand a change of leaders there, and how could that be even spoken of if Malaki had any political strength? So, he demonstrates his wish, in oh so many very clear and obstructionist ways. This game of politics using our troops and treasure and Iraqi lives, to make sure some member of congress won't feel embarrassed if Bush somehow pulls off some impossible 'miracle' will kill even more of our kids. If Americans haven't received the message, and they do want us out, they'll have to kill more of us so we'll get it.

Not of the surge, of Democrats suddenly changing their minds.

One or two congressmen does not a groundswell make.

is to buy enough time to slink out of town and to be able to blame the resulting fiasco on whoever takes over.

If he thinks he can slink out and someone can clean up his mess for him, he'll find that history isn't going to let him off the hook, cause he's already started a growing disaster, and not even the best of future presidents can put it back in the box. But, he can make it worse, and since we all know him now too well, he probably will, by attacking Iran.

Vietnam, look at the way these sobs got off the hook for Iran-Contra. We need to impeach and convict so this kind of thing doesn't happen again. Reagan traded arms to Iran to get hostages released, and the wingnuts have practically cannonized him.

That's what they're hoping, for sure, but this one is way worse, more's the pity.  Already Turkey, Syria and Iran are involved in it, and the refugees are all over Jordan, and there are like more terrorists getting trained, and they'll use most of their training close to home. This is such a much bigger disaster than has shown so far.  How can they even be considering attacking Iran to 'punish' them with no thought for the security of Israel, much less our troops on the ground. However awful real governments are, anarchy over there will be a lot worse.  If there were a way for anyone to get off the hook, for sure they'd find it, but Bush started something no one can stop.  That's why i can hardly believe that anyone in congress thinks their own career is more important than stopping our involvement, asap.  Bush needs so little encouragement to keep going, and I want those fellows to know that they've now taken some of his responsibility.  And that is one strategy, to share more responsibility and he'll be all, even democratic members thought the surge was working, and he won't mention only three, and very slow-witted ones.

    •  is that a paraadox? (0+ / 0-)

if it works to end the war, then that will mean that the resistance to occupation grows stronger, and that more of our kids are killed and maimed.  This war can't be won, that's patently true, and although it never could have been won, because the Iraqis would never accept occupation, they'd keep on fighting, like the Palestinians only way more ruthless and beheading, they would never give up, and they are all armed and many are fighters.  It wasn't just Bush's ham-fisted, amazingly inept, incompetence and unwillingness to do things well known to make things worse (like condoning torture, for example) it was unwinnable in any practical way from the beginning.
