Hillary Clinton in General Election

Sun Aug 26, 2007 at 08:59:56 PM PDT

In response to this diary  I felt the need to find out the true feelings of the Kossacks on Hillary in a General Election.

I make my leanings no secret, I support Hillary Clinton in the General Election and in the Primary.  I could support and respect others for others in the Primary but Hillary is my first choice.

This logic of Hillary being a 'republican lite' makes little sense to me.  Please look at HER VOTING RECORD.

Look at her ratings:

National Journal's study of roll-call votes assigned Clinton a rating of 30 in the political spectrum, relative to the current Senate, with a rating of 1 being most liberal and a rating of 100 being most conservative

The 2006 Almanac of American Politics rated her, with most liberal = 100, most conservative = 0, according to a three-dimensional spectrum: Economic = 63, Social = 82, Foreign = 58. Average = 68

Another analysis by three political scientists found her as likely being the sixth-to-eighth-most liberal Senator

Tell me this is a Republican?  Tell me there will be no difference between a Hillary Clinton presidency and a Rudy Giuliani presidency, if you can do it with some form of intellectual integrity and dignity, I will be very surprised.

Tell me of a Ripublican who supports UHC, universal Pre-K, Strategic Energy Fund, and generally progressive ideas?

Let's not forget what got us 8 years of G.W Bush in 2000! While she may not be your first choice, think about the consequences.

I'll let the poll and comments speak for themselves.

you may want to include "Will not vote in 2008".  I am not showing my hand as I don't know what I would really do if it came to it.  I hope we'll have to rally behind Edwards or Obama instead.

to see that other diary as the top-recommended diary.

I will not work for Sen. Clinton during the primaries.  I don't think she's our strongest candidate.

I will work and vote for the nominee, whoever it may be.

No offense, but in addition to it missing some things, I think your poll is largely pointless -- the primary issue here in my mind is not Clinton vs. not-Clinton per se.  That's overshadowed by the naderish foolishness that would give us another four years of truly sick policies out of the White House.

Why, no ... I'm not voting for John McCain.

  •  I voted for independent. (3+ / 0-)

In a year where Democrats have an opportunity to actually achieve some level of accomplishment - you guys just set the bar at the bare minimum?  What's the point of winning the White House if you can't actually get anything done - and I believe, Clinton will spend her entire term just arguing with the Clinton Haters. She won't be able to get anything done and will just be able to point the finger at "the smear machine".

The fear of having another 4 years of Bush won't scare me to vote for Clinton as it did for Kerry - and if the Republicans win another 4 years, to be honest - I'd probably laugh.  The 2008 Presidential Election is completely in the Democrats' court - your game to win or lose.

If you like Senator Clinton - go vote for her. If you want me to vote for Clinton, get her to inspire me.

Seriously, I'm willing to bet that he's been through a lot more Hell than Senator Clinton.

I'll just assume that the answer is no, or atleast not as President.

As for her having gone through "hell":

            From Wikipedia:

A native of Illinois, Hillary Rodham initially attracted national attention in 1969 when she became the first student to speak at commencement exercises for Wellesley College. She began her career as a lawyer in the 1970s after graduating from Yale Law School, moving to Arkansas and marrying Bill Clinton in 1975; she was named the first female partner at Rose Law Firm in 1979 and was named one of the hundred most influential lawyers in America in 1988 and 1991. She served as the First Lady of Arkansas from 1979 to 1981 and 1983 to 1992

Sorry, I missed the part about her going through "hell".

I meant by the "not as President" bit.

But I still do not see what "hell" Clinton has gone through: maybe my view is skewed from the lives of people I know and have known. Clinton was given many opportunities throughout her life and has taken advantage of them.  She has worked very hard to get where she is. I do not think that she is unworthy of respect, but I am not inspired by her openly posturing herself to preemptively defend against Republican attack adds.

That almost a third vote against Clinton? or that many people lack common sense?

Or maybe I'm reading it wrong and you are saying that it is sad that only a third would vote against Clinton, therefore so many people lack common sense... ?

The point is - I'm not trying to say anyone is stupid for supporting Clinton, but at the same time there is no reason why you need to imply that others lack common sense just because they don't support her.

I for one am no a Democrat. Not registered as such, and have never been registered as such.  I tend to vote with Democrats more often than not, and many of the Democratic platforms are ones which I stand by (Universal health care, Living wages, Liberal social laws), but there are some which I feel that many Democrats are thinking too short term on - NASA and Manned space program is a big one.

I choose to come to this site because I like the openness of the blogging and the community structure - though I am new to this site. I suppose if a handful of Democrats want to sit around and pat each other on the back - if that is what this site is for, then I probably will find a lack of welcome and will mosey on my way. But if the purpose of the site is more geared towards liberals attempting to get policies enacted, then I feel as though I may be able to learn from the discussion.

      •  This is a website dedicated to the election (0+ / 0-)

of Democrats.  It's part of our "Mission Statement".  Perhaps you didn't read the FAQs.

        •  I'm illiterate (0+ / 0-)

No seriously, Stating that we are dedicated to the election of Democrats does not equal being dedicated to the election of Clinton. If I believe that having Clinton on the Ticket is going to have negative down-ticket impacts, I will not vote for her: and do you know what? If the Republicans actually win in 2008 because a lot of people chose to not vote for HRC, it might actually help Democrats win in 2010.

I support the Democrats winning because they are much more likely to enact legislation which I am supportive of, but if I have to choose between having a veto-proof majority in he House/Senate, and control of the White House - Congress will win every time.  HRC is too polarizing to help downticket candidates, and her election to the White House is unlikely to benefit Democrats running for he House/Senate in 2010 - and there will be a lot of Democrats running that year.

    This is silly stuff.

If ______ is not the Nominee I will hold my breath and turn blue.

    **sigh**

I am not a fan of Hillary Clinton.

She is a status quo Candidate of the old guard Democratic Party and I want change.

But the Democratic status quo will be a welcomed relief from the incompetent, daily SANFUs of George W. Bush and the Republican Party.

I wish she would inspire me. She does not.

If she is the Nominee she will have my vote in November. She will be a place holder President. She will do some things well and other things not so well.

On the plus side she will bring thousands of Democrats and progressives into the Federal Bureaucracy (but so would anybody else Running).

This is super important. Come November 2008 we are not electing an individual, we are staffing 10,000 plus positions throughout the Government. This must be done by a Democrat and not a Republican. This is my reason for voting for whomever the Party Nominates next year, including HRC.

I hope it is somebody else.

If it is Hillary, she will have my vote, but my money, time, energy and focus will be on electing Democrats to the House and Senate.

Taking back this Country is not going to be easy. It will take time. If we need to tolerate a placeholder Democratic President on the way to success, so be it.

Sitting on your hands or voting third party is surrendering the White House to the GOP again.

We can not morally do that.
