Larry Craig political cartoons from around the country

Like I've said before, sometimes the best gauge of the national mood can be reflected in the political cartoons at the local level.  Thanks to the Internet, we can now see them all gathered in one place.  These are taken from Daryl Cagle's website.  And unlike the Gonzales resignation, this time, there were no cheap shots at the Democrats.  Here's some good ones.

  An AP article in our paper yesterday said gay rumors have swirled around Larry Craig since 1982 when there was a Page scandal involving Congress critters.  He denied any involvement which was odd, because he had not been accused of anything.  

  Sad to think it has taken almost 25 years for the man to get caught, but might explain his well rehearsed explanation.

  Wide stance, tapping tapping feet will be forever part of the Republican lexicon.

  ...but the Ramirez cartoon from IBD appears to be pro-Craig. Craig is shown perfectly normal, but with tp stuck to his show. The cop is shown desperately grasping at the trailing tp, pants-down, flashing his badge. IMHO this looks like Ramirez is pushing the entrapment angle.

  I'm not familiar with Ramirez's other work, but this totally what I would expect from the conservative IBD. The latest issue (9/4/07) carries an editorial claiming that the surge is obviously working and Reid and the Democrats would be idiots not to approve Bush's latest appropriation to fund its continuation.

      Also, his first reaction was "No," as someone posted on Kos the other day.  If a person was in a stall minding their own business, and a cop flashed a badge under the door, the normal response would be, "Uh...may I help you?  Do you need toilet paper?  What?"  But Craig said, "No," indicating that he knew he'd been caught.

      And that particular bathroom had a "reputation" already, which is why it was on the stakeout list.  Craig's probably the guy they've been looking for this whole time.

  •  Ramirez is most definitely a conservative.

    He used to be the political cartoonist for the L.A. Times, and would constantly mock Democrats every which way possible.  It was an outright shock if he would ever draw even a hint of taking the Republicans to task for anything they did.
