We can win with the right bumper stickers...

Tue Sep 11, 2007 at 09:50:41 AM PDT

Don't under-sell the importance of getting our message out in small spaces. Cars are a great way to do this. A short message that everybody will read (Face it, at a stop light you are bored and will read just about anything. Sure the kid in the car next to is too busy texting while driving to read your sticker, but he/she ain't likely voting away) But i digress...more after the jump.

I truly believe that a well crafted message can either harm the opponent or raise our candidates. So we need to work now to find the right message. Hoping the smart folks here can help.

Some quick thoughts and history:

Short messages are gold. The best sentence ever wrote was two words: "Jesus wept." And I'm agnostic. Still it has strength and beauty and carries a powerful message.

Bush had the legendary "Viva Bush" sticker. It took a weakness (the repubs hate brown people unless they work in their yards or clean their houses) and made it a strength.

So we should be looking for a couple of things:

  1. An easy and clear message
  1. Either an "attack" message or a "strength" message.

Some of my Thoughts for Bumper Stickers:

*
*

  1. to End the War.

             IRAQ: "We have given enough."

*
I like this one for two reasons: It is short and direct. And it a quote from a repub so it would be harder for the right to attack this message. Using the words of the enemy to fight back against them.

The question is; do we add "Vote Democratic in 2008" or "Bring our children HOME" at the end, or do we live it as is?

*

  1. to End Rudy's Run:

*
RUDY: "Running for President on the back of my dead son."

*
I like this because it attacks Rudy on what he calls his strength (kinda Rovian...ick, i might need to shower after thinking like him) and it also will be hard for Rudy to attack. Does he attack the father who made the statement? If he does, then it is front page news that many in New York do not see him as a hero. And he doesn't want that message out. And if he ignores it, well that bumper sticker would hurt and hurt hard every time somebody reads it at a stop light.
Why I don't like it: Too Long. Perhaps too hard hitting...will Guiliani get some sympathy back from it.

*
*

  1. to End Freddie's Run:

*
Fred Thompson: Lazy Lobbyist for President  or  Fred Thompson: W part 2.  or even,
Fred Thompson: Bush, but older.

*
We should be pointing out Freddie's weaknesses and we must also link Fred to W every chance we get. Keep mentioning his lobby ties and also keep asking the question of "do we need, can this country withstand, another underachiever?" Though we might have to be careful with the "old" part. We don't want to alienate the elder voters, and the young voters don't have to be reminded that Freddie is old...his pictures show it.

So kos-ites....tell me your bumper sticker choices (sadly mine are all attack type). Tell me your attack type stickers, but also your "our candidate is GREAT" stickers too....
