Dear Diary,

I remember six years ago if it were yesterday......everyone huddled by the radio to check the news from the Hawaii Territory to see what was happening, and knowing that I'd have to leave my life and enlist, soon.  Three months later, I was in San Diego helping to load ships, and eventually I was a cargomaster.

Now those ships are coming back to the steel mill I work at as scrap.

A few days ago, the United Nations split up the British territory of Palestine into Jewish and Arab territories.  You know what they say about compromises, though - no one's happy with the ones that make the most sense.  I don't think either side will be satisfied with it.

I want to get one of those televisions, but $250?  Better wait a couple years until the price goes down.  Anyway, Ruth thinks we should get a car first, and I need to save up $2000 or so for it.

There's a new play on Broadway that sounds interesting, A Streetcar Named Desire.  I don't like that the Polish guy is such a skurwysyn, though.  And who could live in New Orleans?  The Navy guys told me about hurricanes, and I want no part of it.  President Truman would rebuild New Orleans real quick if a hurricane hit it, though, just like he's starting to do with Europe.

Yeah, it happened six years ago and a number of people I know didn't make it through, but you know what?  You can't dwell on things or live in fear.  Life goes on for the living, and I'm looking to the future, not the past.  Maybe in the future there'll be a television-like thing you can type on with a typewriter and you can talk to your old school or military buddies?  You never know.
