That pretty much sums up where the US is in Iraq as well. Will someone please
call General "Surge" BetrayUs and tell him we're no longer in need of his services? Just a quick voice mail, nothing mean (he's apparently very sensitive).
We've apparently already lost the South Asian popularity contest. Maybe now would be a good time to withdraw and think about other options. Like invading Mars or something, where -- from what I hear--there is much less actual infrastructure to fuck up.
I'd also suggest a five year 'military free' hiatus, in which, for five years, our military gets to work like any other state or federal agencies, with an actual budget that's actually monitored by actual accountants.
As compensation for being so ridiculously confined, we won't send them somewhere strange to kill brown skinned people, we'll keep them here to help rebuild the homes of brown skinned people in New Orleans. By my reckoning, we'll save a helluvalota of money and a helluvalota of lives by doing this.
As an ancillary benefit, my guess is the GIs will be much happier taking time out on Bourbon street than Anbar province.
Call me crazy.
