Spineless Dems give credibility to John Cornyn

Fri Sep 21, 2007 at 07:09:09 PM PDT

I'm a Precinct Chair for the Democratic Party in Texas and I'm just a bit put out with the Democrats who actually went along with John Cornyn's resolution condeming the Move On ad.  With all due respect, what the f**k were you thinking?

Until now, it's been relatively easy to discredit John Cornyn.  Usually, his rants are considered a joke, and I collect them, circulate them to my email list, and use his words against him to get support for someone--anyone--to run against him.

Like the time he compared homosexuality to having sex with box turtles.  That was great.  The Daily Show made fun of it, and we used it to get donations for the Democratic Party.

Another time, he implied that he condoned violence against judges who make unpopular decisions.  Again, it was easy to circulate his comments and get donations for the Democratic Party.

When I heard he was going after the Move On ad, I was elated.

I had it all planned out.  Cornyn would make his usual rant about something unimportant--an ad he saw in the newspaper--and propose a stupid resolution which would get soundly defeated in the Senate, his inane statements would be on all the comedy shows, and I would send out my usual email saying, "Look what our idiot Republican Senator did today...".

Except it didn't happen that way.  The wind was taken out of my sails, not by Republicans, but by 23 Democrats, who gave John Cornyn credibility for the first time in his Senate career.  "What th--," I'm thinking to myself.  "They actually voted for one of John Cornyn's idiotic resolutions?"

Gee, thanks, spineless Dems, for adding an extra hurdle to turning Texas blue.  I was afraid it was going to be too easy.

(And a genuine "thank you" to Michael Moore for putting all 23 names on the front page of his website, in convenient "drag-n-drop" format):

Max Baucus (D-MT), Evan Bayh (D-IN), Benjamin Cardin (D-MD), Thomas Carper (D-DE), Robert Casey (D-PA), Kent Conrad (D-ND), Byron Dorgan (D-ND), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Tim Johnson (D-SD), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Herb Kohl (D-WI), Mary Landrieu (D-LA), Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Joe Lieberman (ID-CT), Blanche Lincoln (D-AR), Claire McCaskill (D-MO), Barbara Mikulski (D-MD), Bill Nelson (D-FL), Ben Nelson (D-NE), Mark Pryor (D-AR), Ken Salazar (D-CO), Jon Tester (D-MT), James Webb (D-VA)
