Alright, it's happened. Residents of New Orleans are finding ways to swim around town. And the federal response is a complete sham. But here's something that I ask all of you, especially those in hurricane-prone areas...
NOW do you feel safe?
Imagine the next time a 'cane brews in the Atlantic. Yeah, that won't be long. It's now the height of 'cane season. So we'll be expecting another couple at least through October. Some will probably strengthen to major status. Hell, with the Gulf temps approaching bathwater status, it's almost a sure-fire bet that one will come a'knockin'. And I really, really fear for all of you. Imagine...
What will residents NOW do in the event of an approaching storm? Can you IMAGINE the fear, anarchy, chaos, gas lines, etc. that will almost SURELY accompany the next major hurricane? While heightened awareness may be good, I'm seeing more of what I would call panic. I foresee pure panic. The result? Jammed roads, riots for water, wood, gas, and food. All of this BEFORE the storm...
And for those that may stay? How safe would YOU feel? Can you honestly say that you'd feel comfortable with our gov't--our FEMA--at the helm?
This 'cane has done two things (at least!): it has now proven that our emergency plans are nonexistant--indeed, that DHS and FEMA are simply shell programs that have no leadership or experienced personnell, and secondly, that the next 'cane is SURE to bring not only rain and wind, but hysteria and intense fear. And while both of those conditions are dangerous, what's a bigger danger is knowing our gov't is incapable of protecting us from any of it.
Thoughts?
