This item from the The Charleston Gazette shows how devout democrats in Blue States can be decisive in any race in the nation when we leverage our netroots:
Senator gives big boost to Byrd
Obama's appeal helps raise $634,000
"Early Tuesday afternoon, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., sent an appeal over the Internet urging people to contribute to the re-election campaign of Sen. Robert C. Byrd, D-W.Va.
In less than 24 hours, more than 15,000 contributors gave $634,000 to Byrd's campaign, according to the National Journal's daily Internet publication "Hotline." The average donation was about $42.25."

More than half a million dollars in 24 hours -- and just by clicking "Send"...
No sooner had the GOP attack dogs put a target on Senator Byrd's back, than Obama and his (national) constituency stepped up to wrap him in kevlar. This should happen WHENEVER and WHEREVER the radical neocons rattle their sabers. If the Dem candidate in your district faces and uphill battle, start lobbying Dem Big Dogs to send out a missive asking their backers for support.
A useful tool for contacting elected officials:

Remember that contributions are not a zero sum game. Often the most ardent supporters of Big Dog Dems (like Obama, Hillary, Kerry) have already given the max to their favorite candidate, but would gladly send a few more dollars to another Dem endorsed by their Big Dog.
