Day Two: Just $5 for Gore!

Thu Sep 27, 2007 at 01:46:56 PM PDT

I'm amazed that the Gore-love diaries out there keep coming. Apparently as many people on dKos believe Gore should get in the race as I do.

Take a look at the excellent, recommended, The Gore narrative: Why he must run, and the exciting news about getting Gore on the CA primary ballot in California Draft Gore Poised to Put Gore's Name on Ballot.

Plus there's this cool video idea in America for Gore Video! Help!

But are you looking for one, simple, inexpensive thing you can do to create momentum to get Al Gore in the race today?

How about Give Just $5 for Al Gore 2008!

Yesterday we put up the challenge to get 1,000 Kossacks to donate JUST $5 for Al Gore through ActBlue. So far, 22 people have signed up - just 988 people in FOUR days to go!

Here's the background:

The inspiration for this Five Dollars for Al ActBlue page came from a PBS special I watched back in December:

In Arizona, the public financing system is specifically set up so that to get on the ballot you have to collect lots of $5 contributions. It proves you have support and are viable, but doesn't break the bank for your contributors.

ActBlue has a page for all candidates to be drafted from - you can raise money for anyone you want, it gets held for that candidate should they enter the race, and if not, it goes to the DNC.

Did you see that?! If the candidate doesn't enter, the money goes to the DNC! It's a no-lose proposition!

Just Five Dollars for Al

ActBlue says this about draft funds:

You can raise "...draft funds for prospective candidates as well. Money collected in the draft funds will be held until the prospective candidate forms a presidential campaign committee, at which point the funds will be transferred to the campaign. Should the candidate not enter the race by the time of the Democratic National Convention, funds will be sent to the DNC."

This is a fantastic way for us to show Al that he has support for 08. Thousands of small dollar donors would do more to make our case than all the petitions and websites we could ever set up -  we vote for him in polls all the time. This is a cheap and easy way to prove you mean it, and to create buzz for a draft movement.

Contribute $5 now! DO NOT contribute more than $5 - the total dollar amount isn't the point - the total number of donors is!

Even if you are dedicated to Hillary, or Barack, or JRE - you can still donate $5 to get Al in the race to raise Democratic mojo, and then whomsoever gets the nomination gets the money in the end.

Let's get 988 more people to contibute $5 each over the next FOUR days before Q3 ends.

  •  We have a pretty good (0+ / 0-)

group of candidates. Gore isn't running. Get over it and move on towards getting the Republican's as far away from the levers of power as we possibly can.

The Gore phantom candidacy is a distraction.

    •  I agree we have a decent field (0+ / 0-)

but it isnt as if we're pushing a Gore candidacy late in the game. He has plenty of time to get in, and not pushing for what we truly want in a candidate is how we as Democrats got into this situation in the first place.

With all due respect, how is urging Gore to get in the race a distraction? The other candidates are hardly putting themselves out there on global climate change. None of them are remotely as experienced as he is...

      Why not dream for excellence?

in the context of the Draft Gore movement, wouldn't it make more sense to donate to the Iowa rally or, even more significant, the effort to get Gore on the ballot in MI?

Any force that tries to make you feel shame for being who you are...is a form of tyranny... And it must be rejected, resisted, and defeated. ~Al Gore

The positive for the naysayers:  The money goes to the Democratic Nominee if Gore does not enter the race.

The Downside -- that could very well be HRC....
