Katrina Proves Help Is On The Way

Fri Sep 28, 2007 at 01:41:27 PM PDT

Wherever, whenever there's trouble, your government can offer help.  Oh, it doesn't have to.  But look, up in the air.  We're spending hours in lines, in the airport, on planes, waiting for things to move, but deregulation means nobody's in charge.  So we sit.

We learned from Katrina that the current governing philosophy is, do nothing if at all possible.  Health care, ending the war, racism in the court system, there's a simple solution.  Permanent governmental siesta.

There is one important image I want you to remember....

And it's this.  Brownie on CNN, telling the people of Louisiana, the day BEFORE Katrina hits shore, that he has our back.  He has water, he has medical units, he has supplies, and they will be moved in as soon as the storm passes.

Don't forget this image.

And when you hear a Republican addressing something like airport gridlock with these familiar words:

We've got a problem, we understand there's a problem, and we're going to address the problem.

...the words of the President, they don't mean what they look like.  In reality the failure is not "ineptness" or "cronyism," it's the result they actually desire:  nothing.

Eventually, the above clip will probably fade away from the CNN pages.  If anyone has a way of preserving it, please do so!!  Thank you.

and for the video (though with my ancient soundless computer, I was unable to hear it.) New Orleans' levee failure and Katrina cannot be allowed to fade from Americans' consciousness. Bush Administration neglect of that city needs to be treated as a major campaign issue. Yet, during Wednesday's debate, the candidates were asked about Edwards' hair and hedge funds, Gravel's personal bankruptcy, and the truly earth-shaking matter the fate of the whole world hinges on: which they like better, the Red Sox or the Yankees. There should be a way to convince the mainstream media that New Orleans is not old news.
