Psychology Research

Dear Kossacks, I've been a (mostly-silent) member of this community for a few years now and I hope I'm not out of line asking for a favor...

I'm a student conducting research in social psychology which I think is not only interesting for its own sake, but also has implications for politics and political discourse. It would enormously helpful to me to have people take about 10-15 to fill out a short anonymous survey on hypothetical investments. It's quick, painless, and maybe even kinda fun.[continued after the jump]

Participate in the Study

The survey is a pilot test of materials I plan to use in an upcoming study. Your help would allow me to calibrate the materials properly to be able to run a successful study. Although I can't discuss the content of the study before you answer the questions, at the end of the study there is a discussion of what the study is about and its implications. I am also happy to answer any other questions or discuss comments and suggestions in the comments section.

  I hope the request for research isn't considered spam - I see it as the opening of a discussion about the political implications of the study, only I can't start the discussion before people have completed the survey because that would bias the results.

        actually, you were referencing Zimbardo ;) he's the one who ran the Stanford Prison Experiment. Milgram ran the equally ethically questionable Electric Shock studies, which I personally find much more interesting. :)

          i forgot all that shit as soon as they gave me my degree, as i have just demonstrated.

          hang in there. funny story - i got a parking ticket while defending my dissertation. i went to the window and the guy said, well, you can appeal it if you want to." i laughed like a crazy person and told him that, under the circumstances, i just wanted to give him the $15 and get the hell away from there.

          that was 1991. i haven't been on campus since :)

•  vocabulary urk

  in the note on the last page of the survey, the term "perseverate" occurs a couple of times, places where i felt like it should be "persevere".  since there were no other vocabulary choices that didn't seem to fit, in the whole thing, it jangled me enough that I had to go look it up on-line.

  guess this just proves I never took any psych courses in college!  turns out to be:

  perseverate - psychology: repeat a response after the cessation of the original stimulus
