The NYT just now has a breaking news story at the top of the website, link, just now that Fred Thompson has declared. The picture shows him with his mouth open. Surprise perhaps?

When I first brought it up I thought it read "Fred Thompson has died." I'm glad he hasn't. That wouldn't be right after all. I wouldn't want to miss us thumping him, in an electoral way, come November of 2008.

  As the breaking news on CNN.com states, "'Law & Order' actor Fred Thompson tells Jay Leno he is running for president, in comments for air after midnight."

  Seriously...we've been over why he's waiting until tomorrow to declare (FEC guidelines)...but by annoucing during the taping of Leno's show but not airing the segment (and thus his "official" announcement) until after midnight?  He's really just taunting the FEC at this point.

  Does anyone else think that Fred's wife being considerably younger than he is might be a liability n the campaign? Jeri is 25 years younger than he is.
  I realize that this is a relatively tame issue in comparison to some of Rudy Guiliani's past marriages, but it strikes me as something that potentially be a stumbling block.
