Publish my f**kin GBCW diary, KOS! (sorta)

That's it! I am leaving this site and not looking back! You fools can choke on my dust, cuz that's just how I roll.
For a month.
Then I'll be back.
For the next month, I'm going to be on tour selling merch for a Canadian band called Nomeansno in Europe, visiting the countries of Holland, Germany, Norway (and the fjords), Ireland, the UK and France. Oh, and Belgium, but I hate to use that word so gratuitiously in mixed company.
And to make the experience more enjoyable, I'm not going to read the news for a month. Oh sure, I'll keep up on the new NFL season (did anyone notice how much better the Colts looked last night compared to last season? they could be absolutely deadly this time around) and weather news, but I honestly have no desire to spend the month keeping up on Democratic Primary diaries, diaries about the latest stupid thing Bush has done or the latest crime he committed without being held accountable.
On tour last fall, I avoided the news for almost two months, although a friend was kind enough to inform me of the Mark Foley hijinks, which just had to be shared. Perhaps during my news hiatus this year, some more good news such as this will occur.
My parting thoughts fall along these lines:
- no issue is more important for this election and perhaps before than the environment. I submit we may need to amend our bill of rights to include the following for ALL people (and other living things): the right to clean water, clean food and a healthy landbase. We should not allow companies to dump effluents into water sources that people (and other living things)...yes, I'm looking at you, BP. What kind of culture allows for such things as "pollution permits". BP does not have the right to put harmful materials into the environment and neither does any other company. Meanwhile, we're witnessing the arctic icecap melt at an unprecedented rate, which may indicate global warming has hit a new tipping point. Yet our government (who essentially exists to protect the powerful and wealthy elite, not our environment) seems unwilling to budge to force emissions to drop and maybe halt some of the longterm damage already caused by 200 years of industrial activity. Of course, Peak Oil (which some suspect may have already occured in 2005 could quickly curtail economic activity as oil supplies become more scarce. How that plays out is anyone's guess, but humanity has a tendency to do things in an ugly fashion when people become desperate.
- The Democratic primaries are an eternity away so taking a break from the circus is a very welcome thing for me. I only hope that all of you out there forget about "electibility" and vote for the one person who you think will best represent you on the issues. I have my doubts anyone in the current field is really ready to tackle some of the serious issues presented by the above problems regarding the environmental problems. Business as usual will not cut it for survival. It may be necessary to bypass waiting for the government or the "system", as the system often will work only for the polluters and those who do not have our best interests at heart.
I hope all of the Dkos folks out there have a great September and I look forward to seeing what has gone in the world by the time I get back in October.
