Republican Debate

Sun Sep 09, 2007 at 01:05:23 PM PDT

I'm sitting here watching the Rupublican debate on Faux News and I must say that these candidates are idiots.

I just heard Mitt Romney say that the United States must move to a support role in Iraq from a posture of strength not out of a posture of bowing to the Democrats.  What on earth does that mean?!?!?!  We won't come up with a plan for Iraq, we just can't leave because that's what the Democrats want?  That might be the single stupidest thing I've ever heard.

Until I heard Mitt Romney say that most important civil liberty that he expects of his government is the right to stay alive (this was in response to his defense of spying on whoever he wants, whenever he wants). Mitt, do you support universal health care?  "No."  Will you keep our soldiers as close to death as possible without a plan for success?  "Yes."  Way to keep us alive buddy!

Next up; Tom Tancredo.  This guy goes on a tirade about if nuclear bombs were going off and if there were people captured who knew where the "big one" was going to go off and how to stop it.  Tancredo first doesn't know the definition of torture, then he goes on to say he sure would waterboard cause that's not even terror in his book.  Hopefully he gets to be president of the fantasy world he wants to live in.

Gulliani blames the liberal media because they won't explain that nobody wants the people kept in Guantanamo released in New York city and that's why there has to be a detention center in Guantanamo Bay.  As if those are the two options; either we hold poeple without charge, indefinitely, or we round them up and release them in NYC.  Only someone with that kind of bizzare thought pattern would come to the conclusion that emergency response center in NYC should be placed in the World Trade Center; after they got attacked in 1993!

Duncan Hunter brags that there have been no murders in Guantanamo Bay, and Democrats don't ever talk about that.  Hell, he explains, the prisoners there get great food, better health care, and all kind of religious freedoms.  He doesn't mention the amount of suicides, both successful and attempted.

Here comes the hypothetical about Iran and impending war.  I would expect this to be good.  Ron Paul gets the first question and gets laughed at because he reminds the field that the President does not have the authority to declare war.  He gets the best applause of the night from humans.

Tancredo is more scared of political correctness then anything else.

Hunter feels comfortalble using missles and bombs, maybe bunker busters and almost ran out of time before he committed ground troops.

Brownback has a problem with hypotheticals that are too likely to happen.

McCain goes last and repeats the madatory phrase "At the end of the day, Iran must not be allowed to have a nuclear weapon".  Its as if it's required for each candidate to say that line, and mention Ronald Reagan.

When they're not talking about terror, terror, terror, the republicans occasionally talk about how important it is to stand up to the Democrats and the liberal media.

That's what it's come down to.

The republican party has no ideas, no ethics, no integrity.  They have fear and hate.  They fear terrorists and hate democrats.  They detest having to govern but love the power.  They brag about their love for America while dismissing American values of freedom and equality.

I just heard Mitt Romney say that the United States must move to a support role in Iraq from a posture of strength not out of a posture of bowing to the Democrats.

Is Romney suggesting that Democrats are the enemy?

of republicans.  I read some stupid editorial in the Columbus Dispatch that had the headline of from Liberals to Bin Laden.... and went on to talk about nothing substansive, but democrats don't like Bush; Bin Laden doesn't like Bush.  Democrats must like Bin Laden.  Make any sense??

      •  It works for them, but not most others (0+ / 0-)

Conservative rhetoric has become so predictable that no one listens anymore, because a third grader could write their stuff.

IMO most Americans simply are not listening anymore at the conservative end of the sprectrum. The only influence the right wing media is having is on the right wing and they are clearly playing defense.

Hey thanks for the quick summary.  I did not have the stomach to watch this one.  I put myself through two of them already.

That Tancredo guy really gets to me.  Is'nt there some sort of door that can open up in the floor and make the nut-cases disappear?

They should cut one into the floor beneath each podium and allow the audience to vote to open it:)
