This is going to be a wee bit of a diary tonight.
But I want to get this message out, not only in reply to RetreatHell's comment over in testvet6788's compelling diary from last night that I only tonight laid my eyes on (thanks, jotter), but the words are also directed at all those veterans who've returned from a difficult and troubling war with various levels of physical or psychic wounds. Only to ask, "And for what?"
This is one humble girl's -- one slight American's -- answer to that question.

It really pisses me off how the people (2+ / 0-)
who started this war don't want to clean up their mess, and keep repeating that things are going good, and we're making alot of progress and...blah blah blah..
They ignore PTSD and all the other more obvious injuries in their speeches, and couldn't care less about the soldiers sailors airmen and Marines that are coming back all fucked up...in every way imaginable.
Last week, on April 12, was my 3 year annivesary of being shot and paralyzed in Iraq...and for what. But, more important, there are men and women getting blown up and shot and wounded and killed right now as we speak. God be with them, because this admin sure isn't.
Thanks for the diary...recommended.

Here's my answer, RH -- to you and all your combat brothers and sisters:
I'm thinking about you, RH....just wanted to let you know that.
And I wanted to say this to you:
When you ask, "And for what?" I understand what you're saying, since we're saying it as well -- those of us who have had our problems with this war from the beginning or from the middle or from the present.
But I wanted to also tell you I know what for.
I know why you made such a sacrifice to our country.
I know why you did it.
I know why you laid your life in harm's way.
I know why you bore the burden.
I know why you hurled your body into danger's way.
I know why you put everything on hold in your life and put on our nation's uniform.
I know why.
I know what for...
For us.
I'm thinking about you and very humbled and very grateful for what you did for me. I just wanted you to know that it wasn't for nothing. I just wanted to let you know that your country is grateful.
THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU.
