So, this is it. The day we longed for since November 4, 2004 is here.
The voting is begins on who will be our next Democratic nominee and President.
We are all political junkies. We are activists. Volunteers. Dedicated campaign workers. Passionate campaign supporters.
Over the past few weeks, we have advocated for our preferred candidate. And sometimes we have discouraged (to put it politely) others from supporting candidates we do not necessarily like or agree with.
But tonight, despite the numerous real polls and straw polls, despite the voluminous number of campaign diaries up and down the Recommended and Recent Diary Lists, despite the many upratings and troll ratings, members of our Party in Iowa will finally give us some real results to work with as we all decide who our nominee will be.
You all know who I support, but the truth is I will be fine with any of our candidates as our nominee. I believe that a vast majority of us feel the same way, given the stellar nature of our field this year. Sure, there are a few that are so devoted at this point to their particular candidate that they cannot envision anyone but their candidate being our nominee, and are not ready to support anyone else. But they will come around if indeed their candidate does not prevail. And there are other naysayers will persist with their threats that they will not be supporting a particular candidate in the general election. All I have to say is that there is a long time between the clinching of the nomination and the general election for them to see the light.
In the end, we are all in this together, so I would like to say, may the best candidate win, for they are all the best. And let's treat each other, after the results are in tonight, with the respect a fellow friendly competitor deserves.
And we are all friendly competitors here.
