What is the best way to get the couch potatoes invested in the process of electing a president? In the popularity contest that is the electoral process, how does a presidential candidate create a buzz that will resonate with the crowd, activate the inactive, and excite the apathetic?
That candidate has to be in a position to take a chance. Especially if that candidate is being ignored by the corporate media in retaliation for his threats to the way of life that corporate media has enjoyed during the current administration.
I wrote a quick letter to John Edwards this morning – urging him to take my advice.
Dear John,
Do you want to win New Hampshire? How about Michigan? Do you think you have South Carolina in your pocket?
I have an idea. It will take some guts – it’s a bit of a gamble, but you don’t have a Senate seat to lose, that ship has sailed. Failing in your bid for the presidency, you will remain a private citizen. I think you have to do something bold, something different, something the apathetic can get excited about, and will the uncommitted to notice you.
You were #2 in Iowa, but that didn’t stop the media from having a gab-fest about Senators Clinton and Obama, while ignoring your status in the process.
You sir, are uniquely qualified to promote this message. I suggest you begin talking about retribution.
Noun
retribution (plural retributions)
- Punishment inflicted in the spirit of moral outrage or personal vengeance.
Wiki - of course
I think you should start talking about giving the people what Speaker Pelosi refuses to give. Something Congress refuses to initiate. Do something that will force the media to pay attention to you.
Promise to hold the President and Vice President of the United States accountable for their crimes after Inauguration Day. These two should be treated as defendants in a trial, with the U.S. Justice Department the prosecution. You sir, have the experience and the nerve to do this for us.
Imagine an electorate that is excited to support their candidate. That electorate is disgusted by the high crimes and misdemeanors that Mr. Bush and Cheney have (so far) gotten away with. You have the opportunity to unite that emotion – and provide millions with the retribution they desire.
The current administration has figuratively and perhaps literally gotten away with murder, treason, perjury and theft. Promise the democrats and independents of this country that while Congress may allow this to pass, you sir, as President will not be so agreeable to your opposition.
Take a stand for the rule of law. Say to the voters, unequivocally, crimes in the Oval Office may be OK with this Congress, but you will not allow these transgressions to go unpunished.
