Thankfully, we won't be seeing Former Senator George Allen on any ballots in the near future.
In a statement to the Associated Press, Allen said he and his wife, Susan, "will always fondly recall our time in the Governor's Mansion as an unparalleled honor and a period of historic initiatives and transformational accomplishments for Virginians.
"Yet, as we look forward, we are excited about other significant ways we can serve and contribute outside of elected office. Therefore, I will not be a candidate for governor in 2009," he wrote.

Sadly, in PA, Rick Santorum has his eye on the Governor's seat.
The American Spectator reported last week that Santorum is seriously mulling a run for governor in 2010, when the race will be wide open. Term limits will force current Gov. Ed Rendell from seeking a third term.
Said one unnamed political adviser in The Spectator item: “Rick is a politician. He loves the competition and the process of running. He’s getting back in and he’s young enough that a gubernatorial run would set him up for greater opportunities politically down the road.”
He’s like a character in a bad horror movie that just won’t go away.

2010 should be interesting here on the EC.
PS: Sorry for the brief diary, I thought it was important.
UPDATE: There is a good archive about Santorum here.
