The Senator from New York won tonight, and there's been all kinds of hoopla about some tears or something. Women broke for HRC (47 percent) and the "tears" supposedly polled well with men.(?)
After all the diaries around here, I frankly had no idea what was going on. So I headed over to CNN for some video of the "tears".
And, bewildered, watched Hillary Clinton channel Maryscott O'Connor.
I have one of those jobs where I'm alone most of the day. Occasionally I have a radio, and sometimes I talk to someone, but for the most part I'm alone in the cold. I hate being cold, and being inside my head ain't much fun after a few hours. I start to rant, the ranting gets old, I get bored, and then I'm angry, alone, bored in the cold.
So I bought an MP3 player.
Then my music got old (need to spend some quality time with LimeWire or something) so I started downloading podcasts.
Now, I'm probably one of only a few hundred people who's loaded up an MP3 player with dkos bloggers' podcasts and listened to them for days on end. One, after another, after another, after...
I listened to "Don't Hijack My Thread" with clammyc and thereisnospoon. I listened to pyrrho got all philosophical.
But when I watched Hillary "choak up", I heard MSOC.
Most of us, I guess, write most powerfully when angry. Our rants litter the Recent Diaries list and only a select few manage to convey sadness. The tender voice that wishes for something better, that sad tone for the good things lost, that voice that only sometimes creeps onto the Recommended List in IGTN diaries. I'd fogotten what that voice really sounded like until it came through in MSOC's voice during one of the MyLeftWing podcasts.
It's the voice of mother's worrying for their children's future. It's the voice of someone who somehow still cares about the homeless. It's the voice of someone who gets sick when she thinks about hungry children. It's not the voice of a NeoConservative, triangulating DLCer, lobbyist shill or corporate facade. It's the voice of a human being with real compassionate.
If you want to say HRC is a triangualor, DLCer, lobbyist shill, corporate facade or NeoConservative (despite her obvious preference for NeoLiberalism), you go ahead and do that. Knock yourself out.
But this "tears" moment the media's all hyped about? I want you to watch it, to listen to what she says, and tell me that isn't a noble human reaction to the last eight years. Tell me she's wrong at that moment.
Tell me your mother never felt the same way. Tell me you believe our president ever did.
