Many people still do not understand who Barack Obama is and what he has done and where he has been and why he will be make the best President of the United States. I am just one voice, and do not speak on behalf of the campaign, but I would like to share my reasons for passionately supporting Barack Obama.
First, Barack Obama is absolutely is brilliant. Lawrence Tribe, a leading Constitutional Law scholar at Harvard University, said that Barack
"was certainly the most all-around impressive student I had seen in decades."
He was elected to head the Harvard Law Review. He also taught Constitutional Law at the University of Chicago. If anyone truly understands the US Constitution and how to get us back on the right track, it is Barack Obama.

His communication skills are sorely needed to restore American's faith in government and in our nation. He communicates honestly and positively with the American people. He is a man of great integrity. His message to the American people has been clear and consistent since the day he announced he was running for President. He is a man who will tell us what we need to hear, when we need to hear it, even if we don't want to hear it. He tells the truth. He is a man who is not afraid to ask the American people to join him in turning this country around, understanding that with the American people on his side, we can accomplish anything we put our minds to. He is a man who will listen to those who disagree with him to understand their concerns, and will work to find solutions that work.
He is also an extraordinary community organizer. I think the success of his ground operations in the primary states is proof of his incredible ability to motivate and inspire people to pull together for the sake of their community. It should be no surprise to anyone who knows about his experiences as a community organizer in Chicago that he has the skills and talents to bring people together around injustice, inspire them to work for change, and find solutions that meet their needs. He listens in a way few politicians do and he incorporates what he hears into effective public policy.
Obama also has an impressive record in the US Senate. As a public health professional I appreciate that Obama was the first to raise the threat of avian flu on the Senate floor and he worked to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina. He has pushed hard for alternative-energy development, and he has championed better benefits for veterans.
He has also demonstrated his ability to work across the aisle in both the IL and US Senate, without ever compromising his principles. In the US Senate, he has worked with Indiana’s Richard Lugar on nuclear nonproliferation. He worked with Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn to bring transparency to government contracting, and he worked with Florida’s Mel Martinez to push for immigration reform. He not only talks the talk, this man walks the walk.
People also ask about his policy proposals. I invite everyone to go to his website (http://www.barackobama.com) and open the ISSUES tab and read about his policy proposals in a dozen different areas. What many people may not realize is that he has assembled one of the most impressive policy teams in the country to advise him and provide expertise on every major issue the country faces. This is how he will govern. His positions are well researched, thoughtful, and sensitive to the needs of the American people and he often comes up with exciting and new solutions to our problems.
His health care plan is the best of the bunch. The truth is that none of the leading candidate's proposals will get us to 100% coverage. While much has been made of the Clinton's claim that Obama's plan will leave out about 15 million people, what they fail to tell you is that Hillary's plan is estimated to leave out about 13 million people. Her plan is no more likely to get us to universal coverage than his.
But Obama's plan will make available comprehensive and affordable coverage for absolutely every American. Don't let the Clintons scare you into thinking you might not get coverage under Obama's plan. I can promise you -- if you want good and affordable health insurance coverage, you will find it under Obama's plan. And there will be no denying coverage or hiking up premiums because of pre-existing condition. Those days will be over. Don't let the Clintons fool you into questioning Barack Obama's commitment to giving all Americans health insurance they can count on. I repeat, if you want health insurance coverage, you will find affordable, comprehensive coverage under Obama's plan. No one who wants insurance will be left behind. No one.
Economists have evaluated the candidates' health care proposals and have found that Obama's plan will cost the least and will be the most affordable for individuals and families, saving them on average $2,500 on their annual out of pocket costs. His plan is the only one to extend parents' health insurance benefits for adult children up to age 25. And he will achieve comprehensive health care reform without involving the IRS either in monitoring and enforcing health insurance coverage or as the provider of premium subsidies. Obama provides direct subsidies for premiums to families base on income, not refundable tax credits, like Hillary does.
Obama has also promised to get a universal health insurance bill enacted by the end of his first term in Office. Hillary Clinton, on the other hand, has promised to get universal coverage by THE END OF HER SECOND TERM. If the next President does not move quickly after the inauguration to begin to work with the Congress to enact health care reform, the prospect of this getting done are slim to none. Hillary has refused to make a commitment to work on universal coverage her first term in office, if elected. Obama has.
Obama is also more likely to be able to enact health reform because he has taken NO campaign contributions from lobbyists in the health care industry. Hillary Clinton will have a hard time taking on these industries given their importance in financing her campaign:
In total, 353 federally registered lobbyists contributed at least $787,300 to Clinton's presidential campaign in the first nine months of this year, more than they gave to any other candidate, in either party. Lobbyists who represent health professionals, including the nurses, account for $82,805 in contributions to her, while those representing the pharmaceutical industry paid out $562,900.

I also want to correct the record on Obama's position regarding reproductive rights. Many voters may not be aware that the day before the NH primary, the Clintons sent out a mailer to Democrats in NH implying that Obama did not support the right to choose. I think all women need to let Hillary know they will not tolerate this kind of smear. I urge all women to go to the Women for Obama website (http://women.barackobama.com/page/content/WFOhome) and join Women for Obama. When Planned Parenthood heard about the Clintons' mailer, Wendy Frosh, chairwoman of the board of Planned Parenthood in Northern New England, said yesterday that
"Mr. Obama has a 100 per cent pro-choice record and has always been a champion for women's rights. ... Hillary Clinton's last-minute smears won't protect the right to choose, but as president Barack Obama will."
If you want to feel proud of America again. If you want to restore America's reputation in the world. If you want a President who will tell you the truth. If you are sick of slash and burn politics and the politics of fear. If you want to get the troops out of Iraq as quickly and responsibly as possible. If you want health insurance coverage that protects you with comprehensive benefits at an affordable cost. If you want a President who will work hard to develop alternative energy and fight global warming. If you want a President who will fight for economic opportunity for all Americans, but most importantly, for the poor and middle class, so they have a shot at the American dream. Barack Obama should be your choice for the President of the United States.
