This is my first diary. Ever, ever. After years of lurking on this and other liberal/progressive blogs, I am finally decloaking to express my profound, deeply felt and fully justified, personal and unmitigatable offense at the Recommended List of this website.
Just take a look: as I live and type, on the Recommended List sit no less than four diaries expressing various degrees of offense on behalf of or in support of former Senator John Edwards (none, of course, actually typed by Mr. Edwards: have his fingers fallen off, or can we infer that Mr. Edwards is not himself terribly offended at the treatment he is receiving in this blog and in the larger media world?) Two fresh diarists express offense at certain inopportune remarks of Mr. Andrew Cuomo - neither diary written by Senator Barack Obama, the candidate presumably most harmed by the racially insensitive nature of said remarks. Another diary expresses the diarist's sense of being offended by the offense taken by other diarists, and then expands on his/her own offense at various actions taken or not taken by the Obama campaign and its surrogates over the past several months. Finally, one brief, lonely diary expressing a mother's gratitude for this community's support after a horrible personal tragedy. You'd think that'd be the one on the top of the rec list, no? Well, don't hold your breath. By the time I finish typing this, it'll probably be gone. Replaced no doubt by one or another 'She's a racist/She's a saint/JOHN EDWARDS I LOVE YOU BFF!!!!!' diary.
Oh, then there's the whole 'Kucinich/She stole the vote!' crazy talk (LOOK: Anybody - NO! Anybody! - who claims to have seen (and felt!) UFOs while sipping wine at Shirley McClaine's house is either crazy, high, or a publicity whore). I suppose this makes a nice break for our long-faced conservative acquaintances: they've got nobody but freaks, ghouls and animatronic CEO-bots to choose from. And here we are, with our embarrassment of riches, faced with choosing from among three of the most gifted, committed, progressive Democratic candidates to make serious runs at the presidency in a very long time, and what do DailyKos's passionate, articulate, engaged activist democrats start? You guessed it: a pie fight. Hey, must be OK if it brightens the Club for Growth's dreary little days....
Well! Back to work. Yes, I got paid (nicely, thank you!) to type this diary. But I just had to get that off my chest. To think that the sun might set without my having expressed my offense! Why, the sun might even rise again! But I doubt it would ever be quite the same....
