During the weekend a dozen or so backers of John Edwards formed a steering committee to launch unofficial campaigning in Florida. Y'all know, we have this problem with the DNC and Florida's advanced-way-too-early primary on Jan. 29. Too complicated to explain, but one result is that the leading Democrats agreed not to campaign in Florida before the big primaries.
Help! We want our candidate. The call has gone out. Would John Edwards please come to Florida and do a little fund-raiser, maybe in a public venue, so we can see the best of the bunch.

The Miami-based steering committee issued a statement Tuesday urging the Edwards campaign to schedule Florida appearances after South Carolina’s Jan. 26 Democratic primary.
The Miami-Dade Democratic Party is ready to help all the contenders arrange public fund-raising events to show their colors in the Sunshine State without breaking their pledge not to campaign here.

Those three days between the South Carolina and Florida primaries look like an open door for fund-raising events that can also have a public flavor without breaking the ban. This would ease the frustration of those backers who know John Edwards is the best candidate but can’t make his case to Florida’s 10 million voters.
We hear that Nevada polls are giving momentum to John Edwards. This is the time for the candidate to announce plans to visit Florida, and for us backers to redouble our efforts to elect John Edwards with a strong showing in Florida.
This is where momentum could be born. Florida could have a big impact on mood going into the crucial national primaries on Feb. 5.
