If Hillary Clinton wins our family is switching to Republican. We are an African-American family that has always voted democrat. We made the decision today as a family.
My husaband is an Ivy League educated black man. He came out of college in the 1990s. He was the first to go to college in his family. His brother also graduated from an Ivy League college here in the Northeast. He graduated undergrad phi-beta-kappa. Yet, both have struggled to assert themselves in their respective careers. My brother-in-law is now a lawyer but has been denied partner in two law firms.
Because of our middleclass status we have never been able to benefit from any democratic programs. When we got married we struggled financially but were never able to get help with childcare etc because our wages were considered to high but still we struggled to pay our bills and school loans. When my husband came out of college he could not find a job befitting of his degree and had to work in a book-binding factory. Being an Ivy League grad did not help him even though he graduated with a high gpa. He did not have the connections that all his white friends from college had. They all went on to work in Washington and on Wall Street etc. My husband, on the other hand, had no connections and spent the first couple years slogging away for very low pay. He could not make ends meet and stayed home with his parents until he was finally able to break through a few years later.
Now we have a the first viable black candidate running for president in the democratic party and we see him being trounced by the establishment candidate who is pulling all her connections out to win. Once again the well-to-do kid with all the connections wins. Obama is trying to get the collective to move away from business as usual but the country obviously is not ready for radical change and for new blood in their white house.
Women seem to feel that this is their moment. This moment is for them because Hillary Clinton is winning. But she is winning not only because of her smarts but mostly because her husband is doing alot of footwork for her. Is this how the feminist want to win? I thought the feminists were all about doing it without the help of men.
Seeing how the Clintons are pitting women against men, and black against whites and hispanics Obama has a hard road to slog. Like my husband, he is at a disadvantage up against the more connected kid who is much more popular and willing to do anything to win.
We are voting republican if Hillary gets in. For once we are going to vote our economic interest and not our social interest.
Hillary Clinton and her husband will further divide this county and 'boil all the hope' out of us. They are too divisive and only care about themselves. As a collective this country is so truamatized by Bush and 9/11 that they have an urgent need to go back to the 1990s when they felt good. The country as a whole needs to feel good again and they cannot see what the future will bring so they prefer to go back to the past. I fear that if the country goes for Clinton the feel-good-again feeling will not last long.
This is one democrat that will go republican if Hillary wins. We cannot in all good faith support a munipulative, calculating, opportunistic brat who seems to feel the presidency is owed to her.
UPDATE:
lots of folk angry at this diary. To let you know we will vote for the greens if Hillary steals this election. So still am not towing the party line but not voting for McCain.
Have no regrets about this diary and if people here keep tying it around my neck so be it. It was how I felt at the time. Since time of writing this am in much better place but am not going to delete this because it has its place in my growth. Am learning and growing everyday. Sorry cannot say that for some on this site who continue to slam my writing. Whatever!!!
